I haven't been here in ages, so please forgive me if this has already been covered...

Today I got Feedback from someone named Amber who is a Moderator at website called Lolicit.org to notify me that one of my stories, "I Know Who You Are" was posted in their forum -- then she had the chutzpah to ask me to join.

I replied to thank her for letting me know, and to ask her to remove my story. It's only been a half-hour so I don't expect a reply that soon, but I wanted to alert all you folks here that this has happened because you could be next.

Well that particular site hasn't been mentioned so far but there are already two threads running on a similar theme. Did that site publish the story under your name or A.N.Other?

I don't know if I was given credit or not. I searched for my story but couldn't find it. I got a reply from Amber, who said "of course" in response to me asking her to take the story down.

The request to join smells a little fishy.

That being said, it could be a good thing. If the moderator is vetting stories posted to the forums ( probably by Googling an early sentence ) for prior appearances and following up with a removal upon confirming the story was posted without permission, then you have a responsible webmaster who will prevent this sort of thing from happening to anyone else.

The members will quickly get the hint after a couple of stories are deleted and ( I would hope ) the members responsible are banned.

They'll just move on to some other site with less moderation *cough* Fetlife *cough* and do the same thing, but at least they won't be basking in praise for your work on one site.

I went a looked around the site and unless you register you can't see anything.

And from the looks of the site, I think it's a Hentai site judging from the Avatars in use so I don't know if to many of the stories here at Lit would fit the participants.

I'm wondering how she knew it was you story...unless of course you were given credit or she has read your stuff here or googled a sentence.

As far as I could tell they have a section for original stories by members and another for reposts. The Mod must have known my username here because her email was sent through the Feedback function. I signed up there so I could search and to get the epiphany65 username, then logged-out when I discovered a story involving a 9 yr.old girl. I won't be going back and don't want to be associated with the site.

I've had webmasters contact me through my contact page before. It's easy enough to find once they Google a sentence from early in your story and find the story on Lit.

As soon as I told them it wasn't me who posted it, every single one of them told me that the story was removed, the poster banned, and everyone else warned that it was a no-questions-asked banning offense. Following up on the links provided in those messages showed they were as good as their word.

There are responsible webmasters out there.

I figure she must care about copyright and did follow-through, otherwise she wouldn't have contacted me in the first place and I'd never know.

Considering the content you stumbled across, it may be more a matter of keeping anyone who might develop a grudge from exposing them to unwanted scrutiny :p

But I suppose we should give the benefit of the doubt.

Good point, but even if she did the right thing for the wrong reason I'm still glad -- especially given the other content.
