Hey All you smart computer people
I have a website and I get an error popup in older browsers and it just shows error at the bottom in most of the newer ones, ive checked it from multiple computers to see if it was just mine or not and i have no idea at all how to fix it!

Weird Harold maybe? Or someone else?

the site is http://www.wr3ck3d.com

thanks a bunch

So what does the error message say? I checked it with 3 different browsers and got no error message, what I did find is an incomplete website perporting to be legit with a forum that only has 1 (one) post on it and it has been going for at least a mointh and a half.

Now, when all that is said and done it looks like this post is just spam trying to get people to look at your site.

I don't mind looking at someone's website, but I too saw no errors popping up. What I did see was a couple 404 errors from the links and contacts pages. And a website attempting to be a resource but resorting to jive talk for the domain name? Nope, doesn't work in my book.

The entire mainpage is one huge imageready slice, which is sorta sloppy. Imageready is ok, but it doesn't make the cleanest code in the world. And if you let it, it can make the code 10 times longer than it needs to be.

The site's also missing meta tags. No biggy at this stage of the game as I put this site into the unfinished and unready for promotion stage.

So what error was seen anyway?

of course.. some one ask for help so they must be a troll or someone advertising...
If you are using a newer version of IE there mite be a little error thing at the bottom left of the browser

Says:

Line: 98
Char: 219
Error: Syntax Error
Code: 0
URL: http://www.wr3ck3d.com/

there is like 4 errors listed on different lines.
I've gone to them lines and changed stuff but still the same thing.

As for the page not being complete.. we have forums somewhere else that we have been using until we can get these errors working out... and the errors are on all of the pages, so only the main page is up until we can fix it.

Thanks,

Well lets see what line 98 is.....

<A HREF="contact.html" ONMOUSEOVER="toggleImages('Button1', new Array('Button1', 'images/Button1-over.gif', 'Button2', 'images/Button2-Button1_over.gif', 'Button3', 'images/Button3-over.gif', 'Button4', 'images/Button4-Button3_over.gif'), 'Button2', new Array('Button1', 'images/Button1.gif', 'Button2', 'images/Button2-over.gif', 'Button3',
'images/Button3-Button2_overButton3.gif', 'Button4', 'images/Button4-Button3_over.gif'), 'Button4', new Array('Button1', 'images/Button1.gif', 'Button2', 'images/Button2.gif', 'Button3', 'images/Button3-over.gif', 'Button4', 'images/Button4-Button3_overButton4.gif'), '', new Array('Button3', 'images/Button3-over.gif', 'Button4',
'images/Button4-Button3_over.gif')); return true;"
ONMOUSEOUT="toggleImages('Button1', new Array('Button1', 'images/Button1-over.gif', 'Button2', 'images/Button2-Button1_over.gif', 'Button3', 'images/Button3.gif', 'Button4', 'images/Button4.gif'), 'Button2', new Array('Button1', 'images/Button1.gif', 'Button2', 'images/Button2-over.gif', 'Button3', 'images/Button3-Button2_over.gif',
'Button4', 'images/Button4.gif'), 'Button3', new Array('Button1', 'images/Button1.gif', 'Button2', 'images/Button2.gif', 'Button3', 'images/Button3-over.gif', 'Button4', 'images/Button4-Button3_over.gif'), 'Button4', new Array('Button1', 'images/Button1.gif', 'Button2', 'images/Button2.gif', 'Button3', 'images/Button3.gif',
'Button4', 'images/Button4-over.gif'), '', new Array('Button3', 'images/Button3.gif', 'Button4', 'images/Button4.gif')); return true;"
ONMOUSEDOWN="toggleImages('Button1', new Array('Button1', 'images/Button1-over.gif', 'Button2', 'images/Button2-Button1_over.gif', 'Button3', 'images/Button3-over.gif', 'Button4', 'images/Button4-Button3_over.gif'), 'Button2', new Array('Button1', 'images/Button1.gif', 'Button2', 'images/Button2-over.gif', 'Button3',
'images/Button3-Button2_overButton3.gif', 'Button4', 'images/Button4-Button3_over.gif'), 'Button4', new Array('Button1', 'images/Button1.gif', 'Button2', 'images/Button2.gif', 'Button3', 'images/Button3-over.gif', 'Button4', 'images/Button4-Button3_overButton4.gif'), ); return true;"
ONMOUSEUP="selected='Button3'; changeImages('Button1', 'images/Button1.gif', 'Button2', 'images/Button2.gif', 'Button3', 'images/Button3-over.gif', 'Button4', 'images/Button4-Button3_over.gif'); return true;">

Yee gads thats a crazy line to say the least. And it certainly highlights what I was saying about imageready.

Usually when I have that sort of problem with IR, I delete the local source html and completely regenerate the code. Frankly I'm not even going to try to debug that line. I think you are trying to cover too many mousestates here and as a result generating something totally unreadable. Below is a line from one of my client sites using imageready. You'll note that I address only two mousestates, Over and out. Few people bother with down and up, (a) the mouseup state should be identical to the mouseover state and the mousedown state lasts for such a brief time, few people even notice it unless they hold the button down and LOOK at the image.

<A HREF="select.htm" ONMOUSEOVER="changeImages('menubar_08', 'images/menubar_08-over.gif'); return true;"
ONMOUSEOUT="changeImages('menubar_08', 'images/menubar_08.gif'); return true;">

Having pointed all this out, its still possible that the error elsewhere and not in the main html, for example the css which is referenced, but not shown in the source code. Additionally the line counter in your editor may be capable of counting differently than the one I used.

Another thought comes to mind is more simple. The fact that several people here have reporting seeing no error suggests that while there may truly be an error, the problem lies in your browser and not in the code. The imageready code is about as generic as you can get and should work fine on every browser capable of running java script. However Microsoft, in its infinite stupidity may have finally broken even that level of compatibility. You might want to try switching the java script out for an asp/dhtml version of your image swappers and see if the error goes away.

Finally, may I say its safe to assume you ran this through a validator before posting here about an error?

edited to add...
this blasted board filters out the word java-script for some reason... grrr

Also been a member here for 2 years.. so I must be a troll!

Well I was using IE6, Mozilla and Opera and got no errors.

Take the code and run it through a syntax checker, most reasonable HTML editors have them.

If you had mentioned the error and/ or mentioned that the site was under development, I would not have said a word about it being an incomplete site.

But with a copywrite notice saying 2004 - 2005 it appears to be a little short on the working parts.

The other mentions I found of your website address are on an IRC search and the Poker Forum for Canada, of course both of these inspired me to take your website more seriously.

You might want to look here for information about syntax checking in Imageready.

Fire fox... didnt run into anything... I still have 98 machine running somewhere will check that on that one... see if I get a mess...... I know how you feel been there done that..
