I do not have a webcam, but I need to know for a part of a story, when you're on an adult site, and each party has initiated chat and their webcams, do they still have to type, or can they talk thru mic's that are hooked up?

That depends on a number of things: first they have to have mics and second it depends on the software they connect through. If it's directly through a website, then they *may* have voice set up. Most IM clients require a separate voice connection. Some software like Microsoft's resident video conferencing has it built in, but that requires a private direct connection.

Hope that helps!

I think so dj. Sounds like for the most part the "webcammers" have to type unless they are geeks.
Gonna write it up that way. I'm sure I'll hear about it in the comments section is it isn't! LOL
Thx for your help! I enjoy hearing from you, litfan and dorla. Hope you're doing okay. Got another rejection letter from an ebook publisher. Oh well, there are more of them out there. 2 down, trying my third one now. Argh!

Go read this: http://www.ursulakleguin.com/Reject.html

I had to look up who she was on wiki, but once I did, that made me feel pretty good. Might give you a bit of a balm.

Good luck!!

John Grisham's first book A Time to Kill was rejected over twenty times by various publishers before a small press bought it. It did so well for the small press that the big boys noticed it and once Bantam picked up his second book The Firm they had to secure the rights for the first book from Wynwood Press, a book they had originally rejected themselves paying a considerable amount of money.

Thanks dj and lit. I'm not going to give up. 60K word novels should be needed somewhere. I admit I'm not the greatest writer, but a lot of my stories continually score in the 4.2-4.5 range, with 20K readers (I only wish that many voted...LOL), some of who have "favorited" me. My fiance' told me that she thinks that by building a fan base on here, when I finally do get a publisher, hopefully it will help me to sell books too. In the meantime I am going to read things like what you sent me, and keep on trudging on. Thanks for the encouragement, and I'm really glad to have met you two!

Just a first impression, but I think of "webcamming" as video with text/IM. If there is realtime audio and video together it isn't a "chat" but a "videoconference." The latter takes more bandwidth, so I would expect to pay a premium at an Adult Website for video conferenceing.

Depends on what you mean by "adult website"

If you're talking about any of the professional chat sites with girls ( and sometimes guys ) on cam trolling for private shows in free chat areas, then the private shows ( the only place where there's cam to cam ) will certainly have sound, unless it's a rinky-dink hole in the wall site. At the very least, the model's audio will come through. If the show buyer has a mic and sets it up properly, then their audio will come through as well.

It's become industry standard, and any site without it is doomed to failure in the already glutted market.

If you're talking about something along the lines of a hook-up site where people are looking to interact with other people doing the same ( the site only provides infrastructure to connect people easily ) then it's hit and miss. Most of the ones with any real user base will have it. In this case, it depends upon both parties having the capability to broadcast sound.

The final tier is simple camming, which is two people finding each other somewhere ( maybe an adult forum or chat site ) that doesn't provide any actual infrastructure for cam-to-cam. In that case, it's entirely up to the two parties involved to work out the details, and you're quite likely to have people who not only don't have sound, but have trouble getting anything up and running.

In short, if the website is primarily oriented around cam-to-cam connections ( or really broadcasting live video in any way ), you can gravitate toward it almost certainly having sound capabilities for both ends. It's only when the cam-to-cam part of the website is peripheral or negligible to the main content that you run into no sound capabilities.
