Meeting last week with my director.

"B* the CIO and the Dirtory of ITS want us to look at changing the standard web browser for the entire organization. MS have refused to address security concerns and the CIO wants us to explore FireFox."

Oh my god.....we both have been using IE without concerns for other web browser, because it is the organzation's standard and the only one that ITS will provide support for.

We made a list of how many web applications might be affected. Well, just about all of mine, and more than half of his.

Well, I disable IE on my home computers and did the same at work. One of my personal sites looks like crap, because of the non standard CSS I've enjoyed using, but the web applications at work still look and operate that the same.

Goodbye IE, I will miss my custom colored scrollbars.

Firefox has themes you know. My scroll bar happens to be ice blue.

But I bet you'll grow to love tabbed browsing.

One click, and I have tabs with the forum Control Panel, My Submissions and New Stories.

I've been using Firefox. A few of the sites I go to don't present properly with FF, and the Lit window I'm typingthis in is only about 2 inches wide, but other than that it seems great.

What's 'tabbed browsing'?

You can have different pages up in each tab. Then click one tab to immediately see the other page.

One bookmark can load a set of tabs.

See attached.

Doc, if you hold the ctrl button down when you click on a link, it will open it in a tab, so instead of them collecting at the bottom on the task bar, it's tabbed within the browser for your convenience.

I think we had this talk not long ago. :)

There are pros and cons to both. I did this For Idiots (our CIO  ) comparison between FireFox and IE a while ago:

* IE is complicated, and can run alot of propieritary code and fancy functions. Some are useful, but most of them are fluff.
* IE is forgiving can run poorly/unorthodox coded HTML and CSS.
* Because IE is complicated, there is a higher risk for security breaches.
* IE is partially inegrated in Windows, and loads itself faster than FireFox
* Stuff that runs on IE may not run on other browsers.

* FireFox is simple, and only operates with standard functions and code. Most of the useful function can still run.
* FireFox is a strict bitch that only runs correct standard stuff.
* Because FireFox is simple, adapting it to the user's needs (adding plugins, new protocols etc) is more complicated for the user.
* FireFox on average renders correctly coded web pages faster than IE.
* Stuff that runs on FireFox will run on any other browser too.

I have no arguements with you on those points.

I can no longer make a custom style that begins with a number though :(

No legit problems with it. I can do without a lot of the bells and whistle that are installed with IE by default. I'm liking it so far.

I like that it loads new window with my default page instead of the same page of the old window when I hit (Ctrl + N). That's very good as I open multiple windows alot. My default page has just about everything I want to get to, and it saves me from reaching for the mouse while I'm working.

Zoot! How can you be using Firefox and not have found the joys of tabbed browsing?!?!

I love it. My 'homepage' when I start the browser is actually 3 different pages in 3 tabs: Lit Control Panel, MyYahoo, & my e-mail.

(I have the attention span of a gnat :D)

Because of this I switched from IE to Firefox and love it. Tabs are brilliant. My posting box is 3" but if I do a long post I use Word first anyway. I've had no problems with any sites; all my former faves moved to bookmarks here and I love how I can rename them and order them more easily.

You have a faily new mouse, with a scrolling wheel that you can click on? (Almost all are these days.) Next time you click on a link, use that one instead of the left button, and you'll see. :)

Actually, I'm off right now to powe-use tabbed browsing. Gonna load all 25 new poems on Lit at the same time, to review them. Laterz, AH!

I getting use to this browser, and so far I have to admit that I like it better than IE.

Ever try to clear your history. With IE, you might think you've do it, but type in the same address. OMG...www.hotpussy.com is still there.
