Bush won a majority of the Arab-American vote in 2000 (not sure how that equates with the Islamic vote, but probably fairly close). After 9/11 everybody quickly forgot the inroads the GOP was making with that community.

I'd be curious what they voted in 2004. But it's amazing what nearly two decades of accusing a group of people for every ill the world has ever seen to make them realize who the enemy is. Like hispanics and blacks they share many social values with the Right, and since last I checked Arab Americans like Jewish Americans are slightly above median income they shared some fiscal. But like everybody who isn't a straight white christian male once you've had your eyes opened two who those other guys are it's really hard to ignore.
