without mommy resorting to using the hockey stick.
Our son had a minor meltdown the first morning - something to do with not being able to fit all of his supplies inside that miniscule desk. Frustration . . .
But that's all better now, and luckily his teacher is incredible. Experienced and young, patient and fired-up about teaching. Thank the lords.
Our daughter - well, she got lost a few times on her first day of middle school. I just happened to be there (setting up auditions for middle school kids for our upcoming musical - just happened to be around - ahem) and I saw her in the hallway being escorted by a teacher.
I was so proud; she wasn't in tears, she wasn't panicked. She couldn't find her class so she snagged an adult for help. She didn't look comfortable with her situation but she was handling matters.
Poor thing, her schedule was screwed up so it was no wonder she became disoriented. When I picked her up after school I found one of the counselors and we shuffled several classes. Then we spent a little time walking her route, and the second day of school she didn't have any problems at all.
My stress levels have finally dropped a bit, knowing my kids are safe, secure, and stable in their classes.
I guess it's Miller Time. Time for lots of 'em.
