We finally cleaned up public housing in New Orleans. We couldn't do it, but God did.

Some GOP Legislators Hit Jarring Notes in Addressing Katrina
By Charles Babington

Some lawmakers are still struggling to find the sympathetic but diligent tone that a disaster such as Hurricane Katrina -- and the lagging government response to its victims -- would seem to call for.

The latest elected official to step into the swamp was Rep. Richard H. Baker, a 10-term Republican from Baton Rouge. The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that he was overheard telling lobbyists: "We finally cleaned up public housing in New Orleans. We couldn't do it, but God did."

Miles already explained it, Jimmy Carters sweep of Southern states in 1976 proves that the shift of the south to republicans had nothing too do with civil rights.... Admittedly, skipping over the previous 3 elections did seem odd too me.

A fair amount of the inhabitants of Louisianna regard N'Awlins as Sodom and Gomorrah. They're most likely to say almost ANYTHING about that city. You watch. You get the Saints away from that environment and they might actually be a threat in the division.

Too much corruptin' goin' in!

I will guuuuuuuuaaaaarraaaaaaannnnnnttteeeeeeeeeeeeeeee you one thing. If you don't watch those people very, very, VERY closely with our tax dollahs, a lot of pockets are gonna get lined...

;) ;)

sh-i-i-i-i-t. it WAS sodom and gomorrah. though i don't think that was limited to the 9th ward. by any means.

i bet it wasn't shreveport or monroe that kept reelecting edwin edwards.

I'm going to try when we get back from the game. If I can't figure it out, you may get a frantic pm. :D

We're off. Go team. :p

PS Check out Al Green's version of Take Me to the River. It's soooo soulful.

I haven't heard anything new since 9-11.

It all seems so trivial.

Also when I left the business (concert/show security), I stopped paying attention to anything new and started concentrating on the dead.

music's a vibrant river, that just flows and flows.

a lazy afternoon drift,

a treacherous whirlpool.

and it permits you to celebrate the dead

and mourn their passing.

i listened to sidney bechet this afternoon. his clarinet sounded different to me. the thought of all new orleans' soul being washed into the gulf. wondering if it would ever reappear.

you gotta start celebrating and mourning that way again, aj.

it's in you.

charley sexton has a brand spankin' new disc.

ain't heard it yet, though.
