As the old Chinese curse has it: “May you live in interesting times.”

I had never anticipated that I would be living “interesting times”. When I was a teenager; growing up in the 1980’s, I had assumed that America would just chug along with the status quo being forever uninterrupted.

I had assumed that the Democrats would forever fight for the rights of women, the poor, the working class, the LBGTs and religious minorities, while the Republicans would fight for the rights of the arms dealers, the banks, the oil companies, the millionaires, the billionaires and the televangelists. Neither side would ever be able to fully triumph against the other. And both sides complain endlessly about the other political party.

The Republicans would always claim to be the party of family values. They would always claim to be the party of Law and order. They would always be keen on getting the endorsement of religious leaders and getting the approval of sheriffs, attorney generals and other members of law enforcement. The Republicans would always try to paint the Democrats as soft on crime. They would also try to paint the Democrats as apathetic on family values.

When it came to bipartisanship, the only things Democrats and Republicans would consistently agree upon was their commitment to America’s national security, and their unswerving devotion to the United States Constitution.

It would all remain quite predictable and boring. Nothing would ever change.

At least, that’s how I THOUGHT things would be.

The predictions that I had made back in the 1980’s have fallen apart, and been trampled upon by the Republicans of today.

Don’t get me wrong, the Republicans of today still fight for the rights of arms dealers, oil companies and large banks, however they’ve made extraordinary and disturbing changes in other aspects of their core identity.

After decades of telling us that the Republicans are the Law and Order People, the Republican Party is now being led by a man with a history of law-breaking.

Donald Trump was sued by the Justice Department back in the 1970’s for violations of the Fair Housing Act. More recently, Donald Trump has been caught scamming thousands of my fellow Americans out of millions of dollars with a fake university. In between those two crimes, Donald Trump has bragged about sexually assaulting women and getting away with it.

Trump has also refused to release his tax returns, and some of his financial transactions are currently under investigation, as they look suspiciously like money laundering.

Compounding the problem, Donald Trump has been engaged in a campaign to intentionally paint the FBI and the Justice Department in a bad light to discredit and undermine the American peoples’ trust in American law enforcement agencies.

Donald Trump and his Republican allies have also engaged in obstruction of justice, and tried to keep the FBI from doing their job.

Interesting times? Oh yes, when the Party of Law and Order, becomes the Party of multi-million dollar scams, sexual assault, money laundering and obstruction of justice, we are very definitely living in interesting times.

And whereas both political parties once cared about America’s national security, the Republicans seem to have given up on America.

Donald Trump is giving away classified intelligence like Halloween candy, and seems to have a special preference for giving away classified intelligence to the Russians. If Ronald Reagan and Barry Goldwater were still alive, they’d slap Donald Trump like Jack Nicholson slapped Faye Dunaway. They wouldn’t put up with Donald Trump’s love affair with Putin, or Trump’s constant disrespect for our NATO allies. They also wouldn’t put up with Donald Trump’s disrespect for the U.S. Constitution.

Donald Trump (just like every other U.S president) swore an oath to protect and defend the U.S. Constitution, however, Trump claims that the U.S. Constitution is “archaic” and “really bad” for the country.

Trump has declared that he hates the fact that the U.S. Constitution gives the American Mainstream media the freedom to ask questions, investigate, and report the results of their investigations. He has declared himself to be “at war” with the American Mainstream Media, and he wishes that the First Amendment could be struck down.

Trump also hates the separation of powers and hates the idea that there are three co-equal branches of the federal government. He seems to think that a dictatorship would be much better than an American-style democracy.
Trump also claims that he is not required by law to comply with the Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution.

And when sanctions against Russia were approved by Congress with a veto-proof majority, Trump was obligated by U.S. law and the United States Constitution to implement those sanctions. However, Trump just ignored the U.S. Constitution and acted as if the U.S. Constitution was an irrelevant scrap of paper.

Donald Trump has consistently shown utter contempt for America and American values, and consistently sided with Russia, and Vladimir Putin. He’s worked hard to give Putin everything he wants, including pushing Russia’s foreign policy goals in Syria and the Ukraine. Trump has also joined Putin in opposing NATO and opposing sanctions against Russia.

Recently, Trump was warned that disclosing the infamous Nunes Memo would do a great deal of damage to America’s national security. Donald Trump allowed the release of the Nunes Memo anyway. The only purpose of the Nunes Memo was to discredit and hobble the FBI and the Justice Department, so apparently, Donald Trump believes that discrediting the FBI and the Justice Department is more important than America’s national security.

Wow.

Much to my surprise, I am now living in VERY interesting times.

And, I don’t like it.

I’m fervently hoping that Robert Mueller is successful in prosecuting Donald Trump, Mike Pence, Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, Devin Nunes, and all of their accomplices, and we’re somehow able to make America boring and predictable once again.

Can't find anything to disagree with there.

I can!

Not much but OP is over-glamorizing the democrats. By the specified point in time you already had both parties subservient to the military industries and perfectly willing to prioritize geopolitical warmongering over the lives and wellbeing of the general public as evidenced by the Vietnam war. Not much has changed since then other than both parties are now perfectly willing and supportive of waging endless war.

Did you know that with less than 1 quarter of the money spent on just the missiles alone that were fired at Syria last week the US government could have replaced the water infrastructure in Flint, Michigan? The city where their water has been poisoned with led for 6 years straight and made undrinkable, when the state government denied emergency funding to supply bottled water to the residents of the city a few years ago because there was "not enough money to do so".
By the way that would have cost about $5m. A problem stemming from both republican and democratic neglect toward the public.

Other than that yeah he's spot on.

~ ~ ~

No wait I didn't read the very end.
'Pushing Russia's foreign policy goals in Syria'.
Is that a joke?
He just de facto declared war on Syria, Russia's most valuable economic and strategic ally in the whole middle east. All our countries are now escalating militarily with Russia and rushing head first into a direct conflict between a western alliance and Russia + allies. He's actively trying to topple Assad's government.

You can't say he's pushing Russia's foreign policy in Syria when he's literally trying to destroy Russia's entire foreign policy in Syria. You can't call for him to be more hawkish while saying he's too insane to handle a military. Those two things are mutually exclusive unless you aspire to destroy the world.

And actually the US is supporting Ukrainian forces, not Russian mercenaries in Ukraine. That can't even be a mistake. You're willingly lying and making stuff up at this point.

Fuck these interesting times...let's go back to when things were boring. Why can't I jump into a Delorean and go back to before 2015 when no one gave a fuck what Donald Trump just tweeted?

As for the republicans and democrats...the only thing proven now is that all that talk about principles during campaigning was nothing but self-serving bullshit.

Both sides...fuck'em, fuck'em all.

He's actively trying to topple Assad's government.

Actually, he's not.

Despite the objections of both the U.S. military and America's European allies, Trump wants to pull all U.S. troops out of Syria.

Trump declared "mission accomplished" in Syria, even though he hasn't actually done anything other than talk tough, and fire missile strikes that didn't seem to hit anything.

You'd have to go back further, before 2012 and Tromp's birther bullshit. But reading all Tromp's criticisms of Obama and applying them to his own actions, that's pretty funny, or nauseating.

Which is why I stopped being a DemoGop around 1970. Unfortunately these two non-profits incorporated in Delaware are chartered by the Constitution to run the nation's politics. That's in there somewhere, right? Anyway, they own the infrastructure, the local and state committees, the consultants, the donor lists, et al. A bit of re-org needs to take place. Rotsa ruck.

But the old DemoGop equation has broken. Gups are now Tromp's party. He owns them. The old corporate ownership is confused, unsure where to best invest bribes er I mean contributions. Gup congresscritters are panicking, as well they should. Their era of political rigging is about to end.

Yeah, right?

Its only "interesting" to the OP because he/she is using this opportunity to yet another new alt to bash the opposition. Give up. Just stop it with the division crap.

I'm assuming the OP is a Democrat and not a Liberal.

This whiner at least puts forth some things in a cohesive, understandable manner.

Waste of time though. And you create another alt just to spew your hate? Still cowardly.

Yeah, I know. Someone's gonna follow me with "but, but, but I said this and that....and....". Okay. sure. Just say I believe you and be done.

Trump's really an Independent. The GOP is merely his vehicle to accomplish many things. If he were a Democrat, he would have used it. Trump really doesn't care about political parties. Neither do I. I merely chose to be a conservative because that's what works for me.

People want to bash me and those like me, then. Fine. Fuck off to everyone who does it. It's only going to get worse.

Name ONE party that's gotten so far as the Presidention Primaries w/out rigging since the 90s. ONE. One.

Trump has now pulled out our troops from Syria and left our Kurdish allies to be slaughtered.

This pullout made Assad, Erdogan and Putin very happy, and it was a huge gift to ISIS, allowing them to make a comeback, but Kurdish men, women and children are now being massacred because of Trump.

Wow.

Much to my surprise, I am now living in VERY interesting times.

And, I don’t like it.

Sadly, it's getting worse.

Remember when Trump claimed he was going to make America great? Remember when some of our fellow Americans actually believed him?

Yeah, well, Trump has done the exact opposite.

When Barack Obama was president, America was seen as the 4th most powerful country in the world.
Under Trump we're now seen as the 8th most powerful country.

Under Barack Obama, America was seen as the 11th most stable country politically.
Under Trump we've dropped down to the 23rd most stable country politically.

During the Barack Obama administration, America was seen as the 17th most trustworthy nation in the world.
Under Trump we've dropped down to 25th most trustworthy.

And while Trump touts himself as a great businessman whose policies will rev the economy and return the country to the pinnacle of global commerce, perceptions around the world tell a different story. Trump's America is ranked as 43rd in terms of "open for business," down from 23rd before Trump.

Why should America care about its global perception? Because it matters to the economy of the country. … Just as brands of products and companies contribute to their companies' economic well-being, the same holds for countries.

That's in part why candidate Trump made such a big deal about the importance of what the rest of the world thinks of us. Whether evaluated on perception of government, business, or citizenship, the Trump effect thus far has been overwhelmingly negative. For the U.S. anyway; China undoubtedly relishes the opportunity to fill the leadership vacuum Trump has created.

Not surprisingly, Trump has the highest global disapproval rating, 58 percent, among both political and corporate leaders; he even outpaces his hero, Russian President Vladimir Putin (44 percent disapproval). So he can take comfort in being number one in something. (Not surprisingly, Trump has the lowest approval rating of political and corporate leaders tested at 25 percent; Putin scores 34 percent approval while the most popular figure is Google's Eric Schmidt, with 65 percent.)

And last week, for example, Gallup released its annual rating of world leaders which found that global approval of U.S. leadership had plummeted 18 percentage points – from 48 percent approval to 30 percent approval – in the transition from Obama to Trump. That's not only the dimmest view the world has taken of U.S. leadership since 2007, when Gallup started asking the question world-wide, it's also easily the biggest one-year drop. Oh and it puts us essentially on a par with China (31 percent approval) and Russia (27 percent) in the eyes of the globe.

Talk about making America great again.

Trump's ratings have gotten even worse. Now, a whopping 64 percent say they do not trust Trump.

‘The worst president. Ever.’: Conservative gives up on Trump for bungling the COVID-19 crisis and letting people die

Reflecting on the president’s botching up the coronavirus pandemic that could lead to the death of over a quarter of a million Americans — only if things go well — columnist Max Boot suggested Trump now officially tops the list of terrible presidents.

According to the columnist, Trump’s boast that if COVID-19 related deaths are kept at 200,000 then he has done “a very good job,” is a sign he has no idea how he has failed as a president.

“No, it will be a sign that he’s a miserable failure, because the coronavirus is the most foreseeable catastrophe in U.S. history. The warnings about the Pearl Harbor and 9/11 attacks were obvious only in retrospect. This time, it didn’t require any top-secret intelligence to see what was coming. The alarm was sounded in January by experts in the media and by leading Democrats including presumptive presidential nominee Joe Biden,” he explained. “This fiasco is so monumental that it makes our recent failed presidents — George W. Bush and Jimmy Carter — Mount Rushmore material by comparison. Trump’s Friday night announcement that he’s firing the intelligence community inspector general who exposed his attempted extortion of Ukraine shows that he combines the ineptitude of a George W. Bush or a Carter with the corruption of Richard Nixon.”

“Trump is characteristically working hardest at blaming others — China, the media, governors, President Barack Obama, the Democratic impeachment managers, everyone but his golf caddie — for his blunders. His mantra is: “I don’t take responsibility at all.” It remains to be seen whether voters will buy his excuses,” continued before pronouncing, “But whatever happens in November, Trump cannot escape the pitiless judgment of history.”

Apocalyptic fantasy is the last play left in the book, after everything else failed: Russian collusion, impeachment, Biden, etc. The world will continue while the diehard believers die off in their personal Armageddons.

Trump turned his back on America

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski bashed President Donald Trump’s glaring lack of leadership as protests consume the U.S., and presidential historian Jon Meacham said he’s acting as if he’d already given up his duties.

The “Morning Joe” co-hosts were astonished that Trump spent the weekend tweeting incendiary comments instead of addressing the protesters’ concerns, and they agreed that he had shrunk from the coronavirus and racism crises engulfing the nation.

“It’s sort of two things going on,” Brezezinski said, “this sort of sowing fear and hate and sowing the violence on Twitter, and, yet, a lot of people felt during the moment at the Rose Garden on Friday, when he chose not to speak about George Floyd and everything that was going on, and he turned around and walked away, turned his back on America."

Who resurrected this?

I wish we could go back to last Spring if we could resurrect 100k lives!

We already watched GOP try to destroy football over a simple protest about inequality

Now we really SEE the inequality in death rates, another example of police state reality sets the nation burning and..,

They come out against the Anti-fascists...?

Next ? The tanks!! It worked in Tiananmen Square
Fo youngsters https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1989_Tiananmen_Square_protests

We need a “National Referendum” in the Constitution so the PEOPLE can stop shit without going to the streets or waiting for a god damn rigged election

Our “Founding Fathers” did not trust the People enough for that

They could not foresee Mitch McConnell selling America’s soul to a complete and utter asshole!! What the fuck is he giving you? Gun rights? The right to stop others from abortions? And YOU expect the right to infect how many by not wearing a mask!??

Fuck it! Let it all burn!

Better!! Leave !! Make your own perfect country!! Let’s see who does better!!

The world is not looking to America as a light on the hill.
We are the burning dump of self righteous braggadocio

But hey, I respect your rights... but... God almighty!!

So, Trump's new thing is to warn TV networks how "boring" a Biden presidency would be. As if a man seeking unity, offering compassion and working to fix this disaster would not be interesting.

For the record, I can't overstate how much I hope to turn on the news one day and be bored!

Whether the OP was mistaken or lied over a few points and irrespective of which part of the political spectrum you support, one thing is beyond argument - #USAisfucked

Here’s the newest wrinkle in the bizarre Trump world of Interesting Times. Steve Bannon not only stole $1 Million from the "We Build The Wall fund" — he bragged about it.

Steve Bannon Bragged He Was Stealing ‘We Build The Wall’ Money During a "We Build The Wall" Fundraiser!!

You can't make this shit up!!

Trump seems to have a habit of hiring the stupidest people to do his dirty work.

Trump seems to have a habit of hiring the stupidest people to do his dirty work.

You'd hope the smart people would (and have) just walk away from the offer. I think that if Nikki Haley doesn't pop up in the VP slot this next week, it's because she's too smart to agree to it.

How's THIS for interesting times?

1. The president of the United States has barricaded himself inside the White House and won't accept the results of the election unless he's declared the winner.

2. Supporters of the president have attempted to run his opponent's bus off the road.

3. Supporters of the president are blocking highways in an apparent attempt to stop people from voting.

4. Supporters of the president attempted to kidnap and execute a governor that the president repeatedly denounced and insulted.

5. The president has recruited an army of lawyers to stop state employees from counting the votes as soon as the polls close tonight.

My fellow Americans, did you ever in your life think that you would live to see such a shit-show in America?

No. I did not. I'm old enough to remember when I thought Reagan and Iran/Contra was as big a shit-show as we would ever see,

Now, we've got millions of Americans telling us that people who have served this country honorably (like Doctor Anthony Fauci and Capitol Police officers like Officer Harry Dunn and Sgt. Aquilino Gonell ) are traitors and violent thugs who attempted to overthrow the United States government (like Ashli Babbitt) are somehow American heroes.

I'm sick of interesting times. I want to go back to when things were boring and predictable.

War is inevitable unless this country is broken up. That takes time...so the process needs to start now. Or we can have violence. Choice is up to Americans
