For me, one word: Intense.

The firefight scenes were frightening. When the Americans were face to face with the German tank and it aimed their turret at them preparing to fire, I almost had an accident.

it just blows me away.

I hope it gets put on DVD. Or at least tape. We'd really like to see it.

Had a pretty intense day yesterday. Went to church, and for the recessional we sang "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and then the National Anthem, which almost had me in tears. Then I after I mowed the lawn and soaked up some sun I watched Kenneth Branaugh's "Henry V", which of course has the famous "St. Crispian's Day" speech that includes the phrase, "we happy few, we band of brothers..." And then I wanted B.O.B., which was, as you say, intense. I wonder what HBO's ratings are going to be after all that's happened this week? I mean, it appeals so strongly to our patriotism...yet it shows very intense combat, which our soldiers may soon find themselves involved in. It was sobering, and frightening.

One thing this show has reinforced is how important leadership is in war, how a good lieutenant and a few good sergeants can turn a decent group of men into a formidable fighting machine. When all the men jumped into the trench and wouldn't advance it was Winters who stood in the line of fire and got them moving again (that was an especially harrowing episode in the book).
And when they were fighting against the Germans in the hedgerows, the individual soldiers don't have time to think. They have to do their jobs, keep the fire up, find the enemy and engage him. They don't have time to be looking around to decide where to redeploy, where to go if the shit hits the fan. Good officers do that thinking for them.

I just saw it

I watched the Encore. As you said-INTENSE!!!!!!! The best war scenes since "Private Ryan."
