pretty damn depressing.

I don't know how many people here live in the NY/NJ area (I do :)), but they had a teacher in NYC who sodomized two students, two little boys, and got caught. Now he is saying he has HIV, so not only do these poor kids have to deal with a teacher raping them, but they are going to have to be tested for HIV. Here's the thing...the guy was accused a few years ago of unzipping another little boys pants and the Board of Education never removed him from the classroom??! What the HELL is wrong with people? I don't feel any better for those little boys or their parents because this prick is in jail. They should just kill this bastard now, and save the tax money to pay for therapy for those poor kids. I wonder what kind of lawsuit will be brought against the board of education? Just for once, I hope they nail their asses to the wall. That was an oversight that cannot be ignored.

Anywhooo, had to vent, that just pisses me off.

I'm not putting my little Smiley face on this reply

Please refer to the Catholic Church scandal in Ireland. Same thing happened except the AIDS bit, but this priest was sexually molesting children for years and was never removed. The Church even knew about the situation and just kept moving him from post to post. At one point I believe putting him in a position where he worked closely with children.

I blame the man of course but I point a much larger finger at the so-called religious organisation involved.

I don't know why the authorities in the US didn't remove the teacher immediately as I don't know why the CC didn't remove the priest. All do I know is that situations like that where cover ups are taking place by organisations we should trust make me want to vomit.

The Catholic Church in America has paid our millions of dollars to adults molested as children by priests. I have two men friends engaged in healing from the trauma of such abuse. Both were abused for many years into their teens.

When Freud first hypothesized about mental disorders he said that hysteria being suffered by young women he was treating was the result of sexual abuse at the hands of men in their families. He quickly retracted that hypothesis when it created such a stir. He proceeded to develop his later theories predicated on the belief that what he was seeing was the product of internal forces within the patient and not the result of sexual abuse.

Sexual abuse has been one of those secrets that keeps getting pushed under the rug. Its only been the last decade that child abuse reporting laws have begun to shed light on this horror. And yet there is still incredible denial of the problem. Adults hold so much power over children that its not only difficult for children to step forward with an accusation, when they do they're often discounted. "It's your imagination."

Sexual, physical and emotional abuse of children is a tragedy. And I'll bet if we took a poll of people at this site we'd find lots of us were abused as a child. I was raped by a neighbor when I was seven years old and I'm still trying to come to terms with it.
