Back before the Playstation 2 smothered the market, the Sega Dreamcast burst onto the scene for a brief run before Sega collapsed on itself.
According to friend who read AVN and Dreamcast Magazine, Vivid Video (and a few others?) were looking into the prospect of making their DVDs compatible with the Dreamcast. But the system died shortly after, and so did the talk. But I'm wondering, was this ever done? I'm not looking to buy, just curious.
[For the record, the DC cannot read DVDs, so it wouldn't be that simple. To do this, as near as I can figure, 1.) the disc would have to be in two parts, one half DVD-rom and one half GD-rom or CD-rom. A utility would need to be programmed to playback the file (possible, as the homebrew DCDivX allows this). Essentially, the movie would be on the disc twice in two formats, or 2.) the movie would be in .mpg format, and DVD-players would need to treat it like a CD-R. A utility would need to be programmed, like above, for the DC to take advantage of it.]
