last night I couldn't help wondering whether there was an off screen indicator telling the audience when to clap.

Or whether they really did appreciate every sentence he uttered.

This is a genuine comment. No flames or sarcies please.

I

This is kinda hard to answer...

...without sounding overly sentimental or emotional. But I'll try--

I've heard there were10-12 standing ovations. I listened to all of it and watched most of it.

His speech was designed to let us see him and hear him, confident and determined. A pep talk, if you will. Every good coach knows how to give one--to make you proud, fired up, ready to march into hell for a heavenly cause...

We know it, and we needed it. Yes, I felt a couple of times the applause was perhaps led by the most exuberant of the audience and the rest felt obliged to join in.

But then there were the times where, oh, yeah, it was genuine.

He did a fine job--actually, I think he kicked ass.

Did you notice all the uniforms?

Those people have been waiting a decade for a good word from the administration. They were told they were appreciated and yes, they responded. Did you see the police woman openly crying?

It's really the best time to be an American since Viet-Nam. Even better than the Fall of the Soviets. Even then, we were deeply divided. Not so much now.

Let's ROLL!

Why do the twats always think they can go away for a month and then come back and think they're going to get to play our reindeer games?

"Let's roll!"

LOL You're killing me, AJ. If this war were a dodge ball game we would be trading you for the girl with a pipe in her back.

Only one network ABC ran the Pep Ralley... I mean speech (Isn't it great having a former cheerleader as president?)

The ratings... ABC came in LAST!

In fact in many east coast cities Smackdown beat it

I fell asleep in front of the TV...

and when I woke up Bush was on...

I was too tired to find the remote or even get up and switch chanels and so I sat through 20 odd minutes of mediocricy (sp) which was not so much a pep talk but a "look at me ain't I a great leader" ego trip from young GWB.

What made matters worse was the audience gave him an ovation at the end of practically every sentence.

So I thought they had to be controlled by the Floor Manager or were all tanked up on Jack Daniels.

:)
