OK. The fiance wants to get his PPL (private pilot's license) and for various reasons it's about 3 times cheaper in the States.
Here's the sticker - I have family in Phoenix and Kansas City, but the best place for pilot training is Florida where I know no-one... For a 3-4 week stay what would be the best thing to do? We're not well off and we need low cost accommodation - what would it cost to hire a house for 4 odd weeks? Hideous? Oh - and what time of year would be least hot and humid? Cos we don't deal well with heat...

Um... I think that's about it. Once he's got his license we may well travel about a bit, I'd love to see the Grand Canyon again and I think my family would excommunicate me if I didn't visit them each... Any general recommendations about anything?

If you want to miss the humidity in florida DON'T come during the Summer its humid...sometimes not all the time. the fall is nice October, November the winter can be a little cool but nice as well. I'm not sure about renting houses though...

You may want to check with Kiten69 - they are planning a litogether in October. She my have some info on housing.
