Nuclear holocaust has destroyed over ninety percent of the world, cross-continent communication has all but been knocked out and few landlines remain functional. Only pockets of civilization have remained in tact but few outsiders are welcomed into those pockets.. The rest of the world has been divided and the only law is martial if there is any at all. Each colony has it's own government and struggles for power are constant. Besides surviving themselves humans have to combat the elements, famine and a race of degenerate humans called Mutes.

The Time: This takes place 80 years after the bombing in the year 2103

The Environment: Most of the world is now a desert wasteland, the days can be scorching hot and nights bitterly cold. Most infrastructure has disappeared any that remains is seldom used. Many cities have been wiped off the map leaving only makeshift walled fortresses in their place. Other smaller communities have resorted to a wild west-like mindset run on gambling and gunslingers. Few animal species have survived, those that have are used to repopulate and feed.

The Currency: Actual money has lost all value, leading to a return of bartering. The only way to get something is to give something else. People work for food or items they may have use for. Drinkable water being a premium it has taken on the value alcohol used to and many towns have converted bars to serve water in place of alcohol which is a seldom used vice.

Mutes (mutants are a byproduct of the holocaust, technically human but more monster than anything else. Some are visibly deranged while others look almost untouched and only when are only detectable by they're feral and violent nature. There are however exceptions as some humans have shown the same defects as Mutes but with their mind in tact making it hard to tell who one is dealing with at times.

OOC: So basically this is a mix of the wild west, medieval mentalities with modern style buildings and taking place in a nuked-out future. A lot of it is inspired by the game Fall Out which I admit I haven't played but after watching some videos of it on youtube I thought it would make for a good RP. This however isn't a Fallout RP just borrows some of its themes.

To start off the RP will take place in a small one street town called Garrison which is run by the only wealthy man in fifty miles which is a long distance since virtually all travel is done on foot now. Francis 'Frank' Bane is the mayor and sherriff as well as owner of the water tower which gives him almost total control over the town.

Players will be able to 'pick sides' as mercenaries/bounty hunters and perform jobs for or against Bane or act as citizens who operate businesses in town. All types are welcome.

How's this?

Character Name: Martin "The Fed" Lowe
Age: Late thirties
Appearance: Tall, steel-grey eyes, clean shaven, jeans and grey jacket, shirt (with tie), very neat, peaked cap, good poker face.
Equipment: Beretta (well maintained but limited ammo), truncheon, knife.

Biography: Born into a sheltered commune and joined its equivalent of civikian peacekeeping, although he ran a gambling sideline. The commune was attacked and overrun by bandits when Lowe was in his twenties; he lost his wife and daughter. Roamed for a while but found Garrison early on. Signed up with Bane's boys because Bane "knows what authority means".

Personality: A thug but not a sadist. Will hit first and explain himself if asked, but once and once only. Sitting on a lot of grief, like most. Will follow Bane's orders to the letter, although may have enough of a conscience to violate the spirit of the circumstances are right. Can be bribed to look the other way if the reason is good; otherwise reckons you don't have the cunning to back your convictions.

Allen Brown

Character Name: Allen "Scar" Brown

Age: 28

Appearance: Short brown hair, slight stubble, burn scars on the right side of his face, dark gray eyes. He stands at 6'7" and weighs 330 pounds, he is not particularly muscled, but is as tough as nails

Equipment: Twin pistols worn in tactical holsters on his thighs, a machete strapped to his lower back, a rifle, a knife in his boots and bolas

Biography: Growing up without parents Allen learned the lessons of life early on and the hard way. Though life was hard in the wastelands, he tried his best to cling to what humanity he had and stood up against what he judged to be wrong. He was barely sixteen when he gunned down a man who tried to rape a young girl, he became the target of the gang that the man belonged to. Over the stretch of four months Allen had found out that he had more reserves that he could ever have believed he had, but the gang's relentless pursuit paid off as they finally caught up with Allen. After torturing him for days they grew bored with beating him and the leader pressed the side of Allen's face into a red hot iron, telling him that it would be a reminder never to stick his nose in where it didn't belong. Allen recovered from the ordeal, but his face was ruined, but it had the opposite effect, it reminded Allen, that every day of his life should be spent hunting down scum and stopping them. Long years of hunting down men had learned Allen the skills he needs to be a Bounty Hunter, some say he is the best at what he does, but Allen think he is just doing his best.

Personality: Allen can come across as cold and distant, but he is actually a friendly person who likes to crack a joke every now and then

Character Name: Hoyt, just Hoyt
Age: ?

Appearance: http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20101119083202/callofduty/images/a/ae/Tf141.jpg

Equipment: HK 416 w/ 3 mags. Glock 22 w/ 2 mags. 2 frag grenades. 1 flashbang.
RMJ Tactical "Jenny Wren" tomahawk. Plate carrier w/ level IV plates. Assault pack w/ hydration bladder and miscellaneous gear.

Biography: Hoyt grew up with a tribe of mercenaries. His people were descended from some of the few members of the U.S. Military that survived the war. With access to a large weapons cache they fashioned themselves as modern day Spartans. Warfare became their sole means of existence. Upon reaching his twelfth year he entered the Agoge, a period of military testing, to prove himself worthy of taking his place as a warrior in Spartan society. The Agoge culminated with a period of wilderness survival on his own. When he returned he found the gates locked. The tower guard explained that disease had struck and the citizens were either dead or dying. His father's equipment was lowered over the wall and he was sent away, the last of his people. His skills combined with the fact that he keeps himself relatively well armed makes him popular on the Merc circuit. He's strictly free lance working only for the highest bidder. Only accepts payment in water, weapons, ammo or repairs to his existing equipment.

Personality: Hoyt seems friendly, but beneath the surface is a cold blooded killer. Hoyt stopped giving a shit long ago. He hates what he's become, what the world's become. He'd like to end it, but can't bring himself to do it. So he waits, searching for that one opponent good enough to take him out. So far though he's had no luck, and it just pisses him off even more.

Great characters all of you and welcome aboard. I can't wait to see how everybody gets along. Soon I will be posting a sort of faction listing so everyone can decide what side they end up on.

Well seems like Hoyt and Scar will be on the same faction and that is the "We have no faction" faction LOL

Good to see you on Timber

Yep there's definitely a no faction option. Though there might be times when relying on others will be a necessity. We'll see how it plays out, I'm trying to find a good picture to give an idea what the town looks like I'll post it here if I find one.

Name: Jim Dean
Age: 18
Appearence 139 lb and 5'11" Jimis not much of a physical person, he has little muscle on him. He has long straight black hair that reaches to his jaw line and deep blue eyes with a tint of neon yellow (eyes golw in dark due to radiation). He always waers clothing that ws around in 2011 because he goes through the ruins of the cities.
Bio: Due to his life in a vault, Jim knew little of the wastelands. He studies pre-war history and loves collecting pre-war stuff. He exposure to radiation has caused little effect except of making his eyes glow in the dark.
History: Born in a vault, Jim had a sheltered life and learned about the past and how the great war came to happen. The vault descended into maddness when the overseer became obessesed with power. In short a civil war broke our and Jim was the only survivor. He opened the vault door and entered the outside world. He still stayes at the vault and uses it as a home and has foetified it with defences.

Jim was in the vault bedrooms when he woke up to the artificial light from above. He was use to it and decided to get on with another day. It hhad been only a week since he had opened the one ton vault door and seen the outside world. He was mezmerized and frightened. Now he was exposed to the many unknown dangers of the wastes. He wasn`t sure if people were still alive out their. Surly their were other vaults like his and som people had to be alive outside? right? He had never seen any form of life since he had opened the vault. but he had a felling that some purpose lead him to open the vault door.

Jim Dean

(Sorry forgot equipment)
Equipment: Vault 96 jumpsuit, 10mm pistol, three 10mm ammo clips (12 bullets per clip), combat knife, pipboy (device hat acts as a radiation detector, batabase, displays medical condition)

Looks good though I don't know what the pipboy runs on, there's virtually no electricity so is it possibly battery operated?

Pipboy

Runs on batteries which were plentiful in vault and a generator in the vault charged to batteries. However thats why vaults were destroyed or faced problems, supplies eventually run out, my characters vault was btter supplied but as stated above chaos happened.

Cool works for me. Jump right in and post, if you have any questions feel free to pm me.

I think you have pm's blocked Avellan, could you unblock them please.

With hopes of joining

Hi! I like the story (and love the post-apocalyptic theme) so far and would like to join if possible.

Character Name: Jasmine, daughter of Darla

Age: 18

Appearance: It often seems by Jasmine’s body language when she is alone that she wishes to hide, often making herself smaller than she already is by pressing her arms to herself and putting her hands in her pockets. Her lean body with a few curves in the right places make her appear taller than the five and a half feet she is. Her coal-black hair falls in waves down over her shoulder and almost to the small of her back and is always well-maintained.

Her smile, coming not only from her white teeth but also from her large almond shaped and darkly brown eyes, is genuine. When she walks with friends she almost bounces, her outer reflecting her inner more openly than most. Her face and tanned skin hints of Persian, South Asian or Arab decent far back.

She usually wears a long skirt; it is reddish in colour with a floral pattern and as clean and well-maintained as can be with dirty water and not much thread. On her upper body she wears, if nothing else, a loose-fitting white cotton top with a deep cleavage as she usually refrains from buttoning most of the buttons. On her feet she wears a pair of sturdy boots she had for as long as she can remember.

Equipment: A diary, a pen (usually behind the ear), a bag of assorted spices and a rudimentary flute.

Biography: Jasmine has lived her whole life in the small town of Garrison with her mother Darla. The father is unknown although Jasmine suspects that Darla might actually know. She has lived a sheltered life. She worships her mother who has kept her safe against all odds. Jasmine knows that her mother isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed but Darla has always kept the care and protection of the daughter she had at only fourteen as first priority.

Jasmine has been able to keep her naivety of the world with the protection of her mother and the fact that half the town’s men folk suspect that they could be her father and don’t want to accidently molest their own daughter.

Jasmine and Darla live in an old shed but at when Jasmine was eight she discovered that a there was a large basement under the shed, filled with books from floor to ceiling. It is still her secret that she goes down there when her mother is at work to read and study. She even dreams of starting a project of trying to recreate or collate information on some of the old masters of literature and art. Such as the lost paintings of Leonardo Da Vinci that she read about in the true story of the “Da Vinci Code” by the chronicler Dan Brown and from the tome “Classical art for Dummies”.

Personality: Naive and care-free but far from dumb. She is a product of her time and knows of no better or worse reality and therefore do not regret the state the world is in. She has a genuine wish to do good but does suspect that the world may not be ready for it yet.

And anything else you wish to include: She has no real useful skills for a life on the road, no experience of fighting or of adventuring. She is however a great story-teller and has a quite original, and to some likeable, singing voice. She has also had to learn how to cook for herself on whatever is available and she can make a great lizard gumbo.

Clem

Clemency "Clem" Blake, 24, She has medium length brown hair and dark brown eyes. She usually wears jeans she has scavenged and a black tanktop. She always has 2 combat knives strapped to her thighs, a small pistol strapped to her side, and a assault rifle slung around her back. Completing the outfit is her calf high combat boots and a brown hooded robe that keeps the dust off of her. It also makes her her blend in more with other hopeless wastelanders.

Clem was born in a whorehouse, her mother a young working girl and her father a merc, just looking to have fun. The women raised her, and the various mercs who frequented the house taught her to fight and wield a knife. At the first chance she got she jumped in with a traveling merchant and a few mercs he had with him. It was only later did she find out that most of these men were soilders who had lost friends and family, and in some cases everyone they knew, so all they could do was wonder the wastes. She was with them for years and they were as close as family could get until the day when men in strange looking armor with guns , she had only heard stories about, took out her whole team. She really had no idea how she got out of it alive, but when she came too she checked for any survivors and did what they would have wanted her to do, scrounge thru their stuff and move on before whoever it was came back. Since then she had been traveling trying to learn all she could about who they were, what they wanted, and why.

She came to Garrison hoping to find some new leads. She was told there was a tournament being held by some rich asshole. The prize was attracting all sorts of wasteland trash, and she didnt think it would be hard to find something good. It also wouldnt hurt to restock herself, seeing as how she had used the last of her ammo about a week ago fighting mutes to get here. It was a shame that she had only been able to use the assalt rifle twice, it was hard to find ammo for it. She also didnt want anyone to know she carried it with her. Her disquise worked well most of the time, to the regular person she was a lowly wanderer, a women who needed help, but a assault rifle would blow that right out of the water.

She is blunt and not afraid to work to get what she wants. Many men have bedded her only to wake up the next morning to find she is gone... with all of their gear. That was the one lesson her mother taught her that stuck, anything is fair game in the wastes.

Yeah two more character. Ravvyn was feeling lonely being the only girl. Plus we need more characters anyway. Ravvyn hasn`t been posting on the Wasteland IC recently but I`m fine wih you guy`s joining, but PM Ravvyn first about joining.

So... as a new player I have read through all of the IC posts and OOC posts but I have some questions/suggestions/worries.

1. As I understand it Wasteland is supposed to be influenced by Fallout - but not be Fallout... but we have a vault-dweller ... so, is it the Fallout world or just one inspired by it?

2. How heavily DMed is this thread? I get that the DM has her own character.. but it seems she is off playing with herself (sorry, bad pun) so who is managing the main event - the duel?

3. We have 4- cooler than thou, I don't need anybody characters... I know the post-apocalyptic world calls for them but they can be hard to interact with... please dont over-cool it or I won't know what to say...

This said I think this can become a long runner... I just wanted to bring up some of my thoughts.

To answer your questions
1. Their are vaults in the real world. Look it up on the internet it`s very interesting. They have one in Iceland or Greenland that hold thousands of seeds from around the world so as to replant them if a holocaust come. Also the U.S. government built a lot for the president, his family, senators, representatives, and other important government officials during the Cold War.
2.) Ravvyn is DM she had a storyline planned for us but I don`t really know what it is after
all we`ve just begun.
3.) My character is trying to interact with everyone, my guy interacts with Ravvyn`s character but we`ve been captured by Mr. Bane and his men As soon as my guy is free for them I`ll find a way to make my character meet yours.

My character isn't cooler than thou, I take offense at that statement. My OOC clearly stated that he looks bad ass, but is a friendly guy...unless you have price on your head...do you have a price on your head Jasmine? :p

But yeah I think as our characters work together we will adjust to allow people into our personal space. Like Hoyt and Allen working together in a kind of way. So the more we interact, the more we can gel together.

Ok, cool. Got some good answers there. I know about the seed vault which is pretty frekkin cool... Although I mean you are definently playing a vault dweller from Fallout - numbered jump suit and all? I don't mind it though. I think Fallout was the best game ever in eternity in the universe.. for ever.

Sorry about the "cooler-than-thou" thing, might have gone over the top there... Anyway... play on!

I agree Fallout is awesome. I can`t get enough of it.
