Wasn't ACME what Wile Coyote used?

More invasion of privacy...

This is outrageous! It's bad enough that police authorities in some cities use cameras to catch speeders and then mail them the tickets/citations. Now, ACME rental car company is using its GPS systems to not only see where you are and track your movements, but also to see how fast you are driving and then fining you $150 for each speeding violation!

What a crock! lavender, Mischka, Siren - can you tell us if this sort of practice is legal? Is the rental agreement binding?

Yeah!

And he NEVER did catch that damn roadrunner...

Oh, wait. You mean this is a serious thread? I'll leave this one to the experts.

*Did you ever wonder why he didn't just order some take-out or something? Would've been a lot less expensive than big catapults and rocket sleds and all that shit...*

LOL doctor_ insanus! ;) He was nothing if not persistent. And flexible. He must have had a really good insurance plan too since he always had such a remarkable and speedy recovery.

But you can answer 'serious' threads too. Doesn't this make anyone else snorting mad?

No, not really. He signed the contract saying he knew what they would do. Whether or not it is morally right is a whole nother thing.

Wile wasn't as smart as all that. I mean take a good look at that bird. What the heck was he suppose to eat? The feathers. Maybe he wasn't really hungry but needed his pillows restuffed.

It does seem a little dicey. Doesn't seem like it would be ACME's place to mete out punishment like that. Aside from the privacy issues...

I'm not paranoid, but the idea of some unseen presence out there knowing exactly where I am at any given time is just a little creepy.

*Besides... a roadrunner?! That thing didn't look like it had enough meat on its bones for more than a bite or two! I like Wile E Coyote, but I think he needs to rethink this whole scheme of his!*

Oops... Merelan beat me to that point. Got a little long-winded there.

It seems I mentioned this a few months ago in prophetic foresight. That cars would be having GPS for purposes other than the drivers comfort of location.

Its the NWO control plan. A GPS means they can know where everyone is all the time. they can see if/where an uprising may beging. SOme of these GPS have a kill switch. supposedily they say its for use if a criminal steals your car so that they can retrieve with minimal damage. NOT, more likely to be used to control the population.

Exactly d_i! My first complaint is that meting out fines for speeding seems to be the province of a law enforcement agency NOT a private company! I get the feeling this is ACME's solution to pay for rising insurance costs when customers cause body damage to their fleet through accidents. I am sure their argument would run along the lines of "Speeding causes accidents."

But the bigger issue, to me, is privacy. I agree that it is unsettling to have Big Brother out there knowing where I am. How long I stay somewhere. What's to prevent them from selling this information to others? Creepy, disgusting and irritating come to mind.

Roadrunner was kind of sexy in a fast, flashy kind of way. Maybe ole Wile was just hoping to "eat" the bird not EAT the bird...know what I mean? :D

I thought about this after I posted. I'm completely with you on the first point... and hoping like hell that it doesn't come to that on the second!

*Hmmm... definitely sheds new light into his eternal quest! The poor guy's just lonely! ;)*

He chased the Road Runner for recreation, not food. Surely there were some fat desert dwellers he could catch at his leisure. It was the thrill of the chase, not the food aspect

I hope people stay outraged over this sort of thing and dont get numb to it...

I'd never do business with any company named ACME, that shit never worked right

Hmmmm...

...I'm still not sure which way to swing on this, but I'll mention some facts that haven't shown up on this thread yet.

Acme nearly went bankrupt last year when their insurance company dropped them for claims of $350,000 on their fleet.

Acme's claims after adopting the speeding fee policy are 50% of what they were the year before.

The driver was driving in excess of 85 mph for long periods of time.

I would argue that since Acme owns the vehicle they have the right to pretty much do what they want as far as the GPS. I would also argue that they are not "punishing" the driver for speeding, they are imposing an additional fee for the higher risk the driver has exposed them to. If there is a valid, legal contract between the two parties and that contract spells out the fees then I don't have much sympathy for the driver. I'm not a lawyer so I have accept that the courts decide if it is a good contract or not.

Turning the argument around, what happens when the driver of one of their rental vehicles loses control at 90 mph and kills a family of four in their car? What happens when they find out that the rental company had equipment capable of determining if the vehicle was being operated in a safe manner and did nothing? Who do you think is going to get sued?

Just my opinion.

Thank you. For stating what I tried to but was unable to articualte.
The whole Coyote thing got me confused.
