For some reason I am known as the go to person for the odd problems. Today that was pointed out to me in a rather interesting and possibly profitable way.

In our parking garage we have a smallish colony of feral cats. These cats are fairly tame because of being fed by the staff and will come right up to you. The state found out about this colony and wanted to destroy it which caused more than a few people to protest. These people got together and decided they wanted to save the cats and even pledged to take them in.

Being known as a person who has taken in ferals before they approached me and asked what needed to be done with the cats. I told them they would need to have check-ups as well as be fixed. I told them they would need a lot of work to tame them down and even gave them some hints on how to do this as well as some hints on where to find more information.

This group did their homework and raised money. Then they approached the C.E.O. The C.E.O. listened to them and asked around and heard my name. Today he approached me and talked with me about it. I thought about it and told him roughly what would be needed. He listened then asked me if I could do it.

So now I have a new job to do on my time off. I have a budget of $5K to capture and fix these cats. I also have a three month time line. Anything out of the $5K that I don't use to trap and fix the cats is to go into my pocket. I have the feeling that this will be a profitable job for me.

Around here they've got a program in place where they capture and fix feral cats, then move them to an open area (like near a police station) where they get fed--and also scare away mice. Win-win situation. The cats get to roam free in a safe place, they're fed and cared for, and the area no longer has a rodent problem. :cattail:

Pardon my puzzlement, but 5k for cats? How about 5k for the local food bank? Augmented with a big pot of cat stew. With all the folks freshly unemployed and homeless these days, the food banks are struggling. Big time.
