Does anybody have this book? I heard it was an excellent reference for writers and was wondering if anyone has it and can rate its usefulness.

*gulp*

what was the question again?

oh! nope, not me sorry. i have Fowlers and i use Strunk and White online.

KM! where's KM? she might have it :D

Sorry, I don't think I have that one. Well, I might, but I haven't read it. If you want to know if it's any good, go to the spot that explains something like perfect participles and see if you can understand it. If so, check here http://ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/ and see if they say about the same thing.

The thing that makes a grammar guide "good" tends to be more its understandability. After that comes accuracy.

:)

Thanks, I found one at a used bookstore downtown. I'm going to swing by tomorrow and check it out.

I'll check out Fowlers too. I like Strunk and White, but I heard Warriners is good for learning grammar. So I thought it would help my munchkin when she gets older.

I just taught her how to make a comic book by folding papers in half, making pages, then drawing a story. So far every one is about dinosaurs.

:)

MNG's AV

Dear MNG,
What on earth is that thing the woman is holding in your AV?

The "New Fowler's..." essentially re-written by Burchfield and revised, 1996, is worth mentioning.

The Collins Cobuild grammar is very thorough and understandable.

Don't worry about it mate, I use bad spelling and grammar in all threads.

Oh and to be perfectly honest, I just use word spell and grammar, and a few years of living and learning here to check my writings. I do have a tendency to use real English, rather than proper English, it pisses some off, but hey who cares, it was good enough for my dad, it's good enough for me.

Here, Here old chap, let's keep the old tongue in tact as is, never mind all these bloody perfectionists and Johnny foreigners.

Mind you old Braggy Braithwaite my old English master would be thrashing my buttocks raw with a cane if he heard me say that, nice chap Braggy.
