Harry Reid working on plan for Dems to keep Senate seat if Elizabeth Warren is VP: sources

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) is investigating the possibility of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) joining the party’s presidential ticket without costing it her Senate seat, Politico reported.

“He thinks Warren is a good choice to unify the party,” an anonymous source said of Reid’s reasoning. Reid is also reportedly “promoting” the senator as a running mate for the party’s front-runner, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Politico’s source confirmed an earlier report by the Boston Globe — also citing an anonymous source — stating that the Nevada senator commissioned a report by the the Clinton campaign’s general counsel, Marc Elias, looking into Massachusetts state law.

State law requires that when a Senate or House member gives up their seat, a special election must be held within 145 to 160 days of their departure, during which time Gov. Charlie Baker (R) is allowed to appoint an interim successor. However, that report allegedly found that they can set their own resignation date in a letter filed to state officials.

Demos generally pick a Senator for VP. But with the Senate majority in the balance, Harry is concerned, not only about unifying the party but hanging on to what ever majority the Election can bring.

Pro
Liz can bring in the Bernie Bro's for Hillary's coronation.

Liz can keep the Progressive agenda in the forefront of the Party.

It would set Liz up for President in 2020!

Cons
Liz as VP would be a net loss for the progress of the Senate from a pro corporatist circle jerk to an actual valuable organ of government.

Liz as VP would be a net loss for progressiveisim if she has to support Hillary's pro-Wall Street agenda.

Warren has not responded to the reports, and has stated that she would finish out her current term, which runs until January 2019. Reid had previously said he opposed the idea of Clinton choosing a running mate from among Democratic senators in states with Republican governors.

It also might be too much as yet for the electorate for two women on the ticket. I wouldn't mind, but I think it would lose votes on that basis alone.

Maybe some, but I don't think it will help very much.

LOL....no she won't....Clinton will shove her in a closet and she'll rarely be seen or herd of.

If Clinton wins I HIGHLY doubt there will be a (D) in office as a result of the 2020 election.

Well the "Usual Suspects" have given their opinions, all are reasonable evaluations of the issue.

I very much doubt Liz would join Hillary. Liz was very much put off by Hillary's 'incrementalism' and lack of support for meaningful Wall Street reforms.

I think that Liz is an effective speaker, if you listen to her words. Her voice is thin and she is not a commanding presence, but she generally gets to the heart of issues without the bombast, so attractive to the 'under educated' Trump Tramps.

I can't think of a better Senator for the job and Hillary most likley will pick a Senator, maybe Schumer?

Congressman Cruz, the other one, has been mentioned, probably because he is a Rep and wouldn't effect the balance of power in the Senate.

Who ever she picks will determine if she wins or not. Unless Trump picks a neo-con like Bolton, or considering the Republican perchant for picking Governors, may be Kasich? Although Huckabee is probably sleazy enough to run with Trump, I'm not sure Kasich is that sleazy.?

I'm still thinking Tim Kaine, senator from Virginia. He's been party chief and has supported her from way back. He's an uncontroversial moderate from a state she has to take and that is moving from purple to blue. And, probably most important, it would clear a Virginia seat in the Senate for long-time henchman, current Virginia governor Terry MacAullife (if he isn't taken down by a current foreign representation federal investigation). Virginia governors only get one consecutive term as governor. All in recent years have tried to move to the Senate from there.

Well you may be right. Another establishment Demo would seal the ticket. I'll bet the Democrats have a line of would be VP's wanting to kiss Hillary's ring.

I've mention him before...

But Castro...

I'd prefer Bernie, but Castro would electrify the Hispanic voters, as well as drawing an even bigger contrast between the Trump/GOP, and the rest of society.

If we want to drive the nails into the racist GOP... Pick Castro.

You seem a little bitter. I guess you discovered you weren't on the short list. :D

As far as picking a far liberal, "It's All About Me" Bernie is pretty much ruining any chance she'd pick anyone he wanted by his stubborn brinkmanship. There was a time when he could have negotiated a lot. Probably not now, however. He's going to get the hammer for being a thorn to the end. And that's not going to bother the party a bit, because he still hasn't done a damn thing for the party he still hasn't actually joined.

Why should he join the DNC??

He's a progressive and might actually give a shit about someone other than billionaires.

This is entirely unlike Democrats who are largely regressive....

Dump Clit'n. Draft Lizzie

Draft Mitt'ns

Give both parties more legitimate candidates.

HRC might want to consider Az.'s GOP Senator John McCain...
He's got the experience and it's not like he's going to piss off any of the voter blocks or independents likely to vote for her anyway, and with him on her ticket, it might just shut down enough conservative rampage...
On the other hand, tapping Bernie will activate the Bernie Bro's...
