Seriously.

There's been a warrant issued for my arrest, with a $2500 bond, for not pulling weeds.

We moved out of our house a year ago in August 2007, and moved closer to hubbie's work an hour away, because we couldn't afford his commute/gas any more ($800 a month). We tried to sell it, but ya know, the market... In fact, THAT place got too expensive (and we needed a little more room, baby and all) so we moved again in August 2008, having our mail forwarded (again.)

They finally foreclosed on the house we moved out of in Aug '07 this past June '08. But they (apparently, I never got anything) sent a notice to us in July '08 that we owed the city a $50 fine for not pulling weeds in our front yard.

Now, our mail has been forwarded, but it's taking a LONG time, almost a month, to get our forwarded mail, and we got a notice today that because we didn't appear in court on a date we weren't even notified of (to my knowledge) back in August '08, my license has been suspended, and they have issued a warrant for my arrest.

They did this a month ago, since the mail took a month to get here. I've been driving on a suspended license for a month and had no idea.

So if you don't hear from me... I went to jail for not pulling weeds.

dammit!

What's your city's policies like, do you know? I know that here they are actually more interested in rectifying the probem than dragging insane amounts of money from people on the verge of bankruptcy already.

A local guy went to jail for not watering his lawn, but its aqgainst the law to water your lawn, so he couldnt win.

I have no idea, but I know the people who lived there before us got cited all the time for their lawn, so maybe the person who wrote the ticket had them in mind when he wrote it?

We had a neighbor mowing the lawn for us for a while, but then he went into the hospital and couldn't do it, and we couldn't drive our car long distances to go do it ourselves at the time (stupid thing had a transmission leak and I didn't trust it that far and by the time we could afford to fix it, it wasn't lawn-mowing season anymore AND they had already foreclosed...)

But we never got any notices. Not one. Until JUST now. A month after they "took action."

They said I could go in any day during the week M-F at 9:30 in the morning and talk to the judge. We'll see what happens...

They also had that insanity of one city department (Fire) telling a homeowner to trim his trees and then another city department (conservation???) fining him $150,000 because he trimmed his trees.! Major WTF moment!

CRIMSON

Fines and jail are common anymore.

Why, just yesterday the cops here put a 9 year old in jail and charged her with a felony for having a tamtrum at school. She tried to kick the school cop and he charged her with felony battery on a LEO. Did I mention she has a history of mental illness and attends a special needs school?

The world gets more fucked up every day. With STELLA-OMEGA looking like a Mummer's nightmare, leading the parade.

We can get fined by the council for putting too much rubbish in our bin...where did I put my straightjacket???

In the world of tomorrow every neighborhood will have an official snitch to report violations of city codes. Theyll call them something sweet like...community service warden or whatever, but Gestapo they are.

A warrant out for my arrest would just make me laugh my ass off, especially for something so trivial. It's like the last time I got into a car accident. I just giggled for the next few days.

But that really does suck that you are in that position to begin with. I do hope that everything gets worked out and better for you.

*hugs*

What!?

You're seriously wanted because of that...? God, I hope you don't get in trouble, you're too good a person to go to jail for that :(

HEHEHE!

My inlaws live in Missouri and they have Lawn Nazi Police there. If their lawn gets to long the city sends out a notice. If you ignore it they come and mow your lawn and charge you for it.

My mom recently got a ticket for a barking dog, her third "offence", so she has to go to court. The thing is that the police officer knocked on her door at 10 at night, waking her up (and the dogs). How the hell her dogs couldv'e been barking outside when they were inside asleep!? She still got the ticket.

I think the police officer needs to take some smart pills cause he has a real case of the stupids.

Oh dear. I do have to admit that when I read the thread title, I thought you were sentenced to pull weeds.

Have you thought about wearing clothes that emphasize your pregnancy when you go talk to the judge? I'm not one for playing up things like that, but it might help in this case, especially if you get a kind, grandfatherly type. Since you know now that your license is suspended, I'd recommend finding a different way to get to court, just in case he asks.

Good luck with getting this untangled. :rose:

We'll post bail!

Seriously, you can just pay the fine or talk to someone I hope. Sometimes the judical system is just broken. Really, issuing a warrent for your arrest for this is beyond stupid! You'll probably have to hire a lawyer to straighen the mess out. So sorry! :(

(There are wanted posters of me in all of the nurseries in three states! I kill plants and flowers and trees. Not on purpose, I just can't grow anything.)

Oh! Oh! Can we created the "WANTED!" poster?

WANTED!

Noticing the timeline here...

Sweetheart, check and see when the fine was ISSUED. When was the property CITED.

If they foreclosed on you in June and the citation was issued in July... it's the bank that is responsible, not you.

Make sure to take proof of your moves along, that way you have some paper to back up what your saying.. if you do they probably will blow off the warrant and just give you the original fine.

having said the practical part:

the system isn;t broke.. its that every dept. has its own system and they don't get along with each other.... hence the mail system having issues causing the legal system blunders..

same happens between legal and medical and such.. and people just get hurt by it.

That's not broken? If not then it's only because it leaped right over "Broken" and went straight to "Fucked Up Beyond Belief"!
