Started my computer today and walked away. Came back to find zone alarm on screen with message, do you want Osama exe file to access your computer.
Seriously this happened, hubby clicked for more info to find that somehow this little program had appeared in the start menu, had it's own files etc. It was called 'yo mama osama exe'.
I have no idea how this got there. It has been wiped completely, we hope. Has anyone else had this problem?

I checked a anti virus site and there was no mention of any Osama virus... Probably a trojan horse .

what does that mean? A trojan horse, I assume you mean disguised as something. I checked too and couldn't find anything called this. (osama exe)How will I know if it has been completely eradicated and how did it get there in the first place? Weird.

Debbie xxx ......I have been having really bad problems with a trojan on my pc ......it has caused real bad problems , finally had to employ a virus tech to get it ....it was changing file paths ???....as it moved around ........

My advise is now , don't open NOTHING, unless you know the person who sent it .....even if it is a mail from a friend , and you arent expecting it , either scan it first , or phone / email them to ask if they sent it .......i know this sounds drastic but i nearly lost my computer from some bastard who sent me one ......

Unfortunately I have learned a lot of viruses can get into computers via email , they get into peoples systems and go into address book and send email to everybody iin list .....with out the original sender knowing ....

If you want to talk anymore about this pm me please , I have found out so much from this virus techie i chat too now on another chat site ......

thank you so much sarahuk4 as I have no idea if this is still in my computer. I love my computer. silly it may seem but my Grandpa died at Christmas, enabling me, though his will to purchase three computers for my family. I would be more than upset to find that my computer could be disabled by a virus. We upgraded with the money he left to fast computers.
It would have meant an awful lot to him, if he knew, that his grandson was able to continue in his footsteps in the field of computers.
Hopefully I can track this problem. I have not downloaded anything recently that is suspect and Norton and Zone alarm have been running.
I, sincerely hope this does not happen to anyone else either.

Norton and Zone alarm are very good as long as you keep them updated .....

Debbie..........Go to www.cnet.com

They have freeware that you can download. You may be able to find a good firewall protection, which prevents virus from being mailed to you by informing you beforehand.

New computer Zone alarm only added four days ago and norton yesterday! All I can think of is that stepson (18) downloaded something yesterday that wasn't protected by Norton or Zone alarm.
Any ideas? Anyone?

The only thing I can think of is that it might be a virus that isn't on Norton's list. It is one of the flaws of anti virus programs, people are coming up with better viruses to beat them.

If www.cnet.com doesn't tell you anything about such a virus,
www.zdnet.com certainly will.

On Zone alarm you need the SOHO version not the pro version.....just downloaded my new one yesterday ......but main thing keep it updated and Norton updated .........

Some very nasty people out there ......Debbie see my 2nd pm to you ok .......

Also Guy JD , House call do a very good back up service , as a quick scan for pc for viruses .......

Found it all out this weekend , with my trojan ..lol....they say you learn through expericence ........geeshhhhhhhh......I sure did ...........:)

Thanks Sarah, I'm currently using the Norton 2000 version. Will I need to download House call as well?

ok stepson says while randomly surfing the net came across this site 'yo momma osama' and it could explain the osama exe.
Please be very careful while surfing. Keep this thread high at Lit. BB to warn others.
Sounds like it is a virus/bug we all need to avoid.
Will keep you updated if any consequences.
I have noticed that ISP was running with extreme difficulty and errors. Could be a coincidence but since osama.exe was deleted from our computer there has been NO problems at all.
This is not a hoax at all.
Those who know me as a poster at this board will verify that I am honest.
Take care.
:)

I just hope that you didn't give that virus to the Literotica board, Debbie. Heaven knows that it moves slow enough, as it is............LOL

LOL I hope I am not contagious as well! I would have Lit withdrawal, be in quarantine and be very PO as well!!!

JDguy ....sorry it has taken so long to get back to you .....the www. address is .....

www.housecall.antivirus.com

Just disengage your Norton before you run it .....

Dont run both together .....or if Housecall finds a virus it will send it to Norton ....or visa versa .....

I do Housecall once a week as back up ....and you leave your firewall up aswell ....dont disengage that .....

I think you are in America arent you .....so it means that you dont have to type in your country , cause over here we get different viruses i persume ......lol....lol.......

Wait for all the data to load .....follow instructions , and take the cross (check ithink you call it ) out of self clean , you dont want that as you want to see what files they are in if you have any .....

Best of luck and if you want you can pm me about it .....

Best of luck Debbie with your virus protection , pm me again if you want too ......

Update on this thread

see my new av? She's pretty and blue like me, today.
My computer still seems to be having problems and doing weird things. The bug is still in the system.
Stuff like suddenly my isp drops me after surfing and all the icons on the toolbar have changed into exactly the same thing? And it is the same on the start menu. There is no way I can hook back up again till I reboot and the computer is slow loading.
Any ideas?

Sounds like what happens when there isn't enough memory to display the icons.

Do you have a surge suppressor? Could your memory have been zapped by a surge or static discharge? If you're running Windows ME, it has a known bug in the memory management routines that could cause this sort of problem.

Re: an "Osama" virus -- I saw a link on MSNBC.com a day or two ago that mentioned the appearance of a virus named after Osama Bin Laden. It didn't have any details on what the virus does or how it spreads, but one of the anti-virus sites might have some information posted on it by now.

Thanks very much for that. I don't think it is a memory problem tho. This computer has been upgraded and I have 128 mb.
I will look into the anti virus sites and see what I can come up with.
