This afternoon I watched as the thermometer climbed to 96.6°F in the shade. We're talking a bit uncomfortable. Inside my place, (A large metal box with minimal insulation,) the temperature inside rose to 81°F with the thermostate set at 80°F.

Naturaly I was outside working and sweating.

This is telling me I have to do a couple of things. I have got to redo the ceiling and get some good insulation up there, I also have to think about replacing my ancient and wheezing A/C.

For the ceiling I have the insulation and have ordered the rails for the ceiling tiles. When they come in I'll go out and buy the tiles. (This isn't going to be cheap as I'll be replacing something like 700 square feet of ceiling and insulation.)

The wife and I have already started saving up the money for a new A/C. We're thinking something in the range of a 3.5 or 4 ton system. It won't be cheap but we'll get it replaced.

Oh and just to let you know. 97°F with 70% humidity works out to a heat index of something like 125°F.

Ugh! I do not envy you right now. *hugs* And I thout it was bad when I was walking dogs In Texas, I'd be up at 6am and it would already be up to a heat index of 100. Ick, that's nasty Cat, good luck with your repairs

Say again ...

I don't know where in Florida it is that you live but I've lived in the Panhandle at Eglin AFB when I was young and Boca Raton about 15 yars later and Fla summer temps are a bit more than I can handle.

San Fransisco, actually San Rafael was 76 degrees with a warm sun and a cool 10 mph westerly at 3:30 PM this afternoon.

Condolences

The heat index here in central Florida at 11:21 PM EST is 97 degrees F...and was 107F around 1:00 this afternoon...and more of the same tomorrow.

Good luck with your repairs, cat.

I lived in Florida for a while, and those summers were no fun. I always thought that FL should be the first clothing-optional state. (If you think that this would lead to rampant erotic stimulation -- not that that's a bad thing -- you probably haven't seen many naked old people.) Ain't gonna happen, though. Too many Bible-thumpers and bluenoses.

I heard somebody say once that he wouldn't live anyplace where the cockroaches are bigger than the mice. That about summed up my feeling about Florida. But I have relatives who wouldn't live anywhere else.
