This afternoon I watched as the thermometer climbed to 96.6°F in the shade. We're talking a bit uncomfortable. Inside my place, (A large metal box with minimal insulation,) the temperature inside rose to 81°F with the thermostate set at 80°F.
Naturaly I was outside working and sweating.
This is telling me I have to do a couple of things. I have got to redo the ceiling and get some good insulation up there, I also have to think about replacing my ancient and wheezing A/C.
For the ceiling I have the insulation and have ordered the rails for the ceiling tiles. When they come in I'll go out and buy the tiles. (This isn't going to be cheap as I'll be replacing something like 700 square feet of ceiling and insulation.)
The wife and I have already started saving up the money for a new A/C. We're thinking something in the range of a 3.5 or 4 ton system. It won't be cheap but we'll get it replaced.
Oh and just to let you know. 97°F with 70% humidity works out to a heat index of something like 125°F.
