So I thought I'd start my own I'm-bored-and-looking-to-kill-time-and-be-entertained thread. Although I don't post too much, I do like to surf the boards and read, but tonight there isn't too much going on.

So here it is. :)

I'm bored. I'm trying not to drink. I turned 21 Sunday and tonight is the first night since then that I haven't drank. . . It's difficult, but I'm trying. And my homework isn't keeping me entertained. Anyone want to keep a girl company?

Thanks...

I stopped drinking seriously when I was 18 (I started when I was about 12). It had gotten pretty ugly. So now I'm trying to keep it in moderation... but it's so hard... everything for 21+ around here seems to be based on alcohol. It's so damn tempting. And why the hell am I an English major? Anyone want to disect fiction with me???

I started drinking before legal age myself. Moderation never worked for me. Have been sober for 14 years now. Life is much better for me this way.

if it makes you feel better, drinking gets passe and expensive very quickly. Take it from someone who's turning 24 in a couple months. I have maybe one drink a week...and trust me, when it can cost you 60 dollars to get drunk(I live in new york...a good drink can run you up to 15 with tip), it isn't worth it. Half the time I'll just have a mikes and then switch to soda. No one is going to think less of you if you don't have alcohol. And quite frankly, a hangover is not a fun way to start the morning.

I'm honestly not too too worried about drinking. I'm sure I'll be fine. :)

However, I may not survive tonight. This ranks as one of the most boring Friday nights I've had. :( It's just me, an ice coffee, some English homework, and Lit...

what are you reading?

I'm trying to get ahead on semester reading myself...but at least my book is entertaining.

Right now it's Steve Yarbrough's "The Rest Of Her Life."

The semester hasn't even started yet for me. This stuff is due on the first day of classes. How terrible is a prof that assigns homework over summer break??

welcome to my world which includes over 20 "required books" and something like another 30-40 in "reccomended reading". I also have to show up to class with work done.

You're not a grad student are you? That would suck if I had ever had to do that as an undergrad. I expected this sort of hell as a grad student though. Good thing I love my subject matter (of course I'll change my tune when I have to read some dry stats filled work of intellectual history) or I would just go back to teaching high school and forget this whole MA/PhD/College Prof thing.

I'm an undergrad...

Granted I'm declared an honor student, but this isn't for one of my honors classes. Nor is it background work for my thesis. This is just for my "light" class. The class I enrolled in for "fun." I do love being an English major... usually. But this is pushing it.

*Reaches for more coffee*

But it's ok... only nine more stories to analyze...

Bored 21 and at home...I cannot resist.....How you doin? (Joey voice)...

I remember my "light and fun class" in arthurian legend. The one I was taking just for kicks. The one that made my life a living hell to the point where I lived to piss off my prof. I took it pass fail and made sure he couldn't fail me, even though I all but called him a flaming asshole with a god complex. :) I also wrote my final paper for that class explicity to piss him off. But the reading load for that class along with his tests made me want to scream and throw things. hugs babe....I feel your pain. But as someone who's lived it, all I can say is...."this too shall pass.....unless you opt for grad school"

I am actually doing good...heading up to the mountains tomorrow morning...just chilling listening to music....you just reminded me that i am thankful i am done with school (I have doctorate).... What would you like to be doing beside studying?

What would I like to be doing? Oh man...
Camping outside
Making love
Baking cookies
Watching a movie
Star gazing
Sleeping

I could keep going, but this is just making it even more difficult to concentrate on my work...

I can't wait until I can say "I have a doctorate" congrats....and in what?

What would I like to be doing? Getting a massage from a lover, be cuddled up watching a movie...in other words mostly be with someone other than my cat and my computer. A nice male someone to nuzzle and play with....

On the other hand I've been out a lot recently so I'm enjoying being alone right now...it's not the worst thing I could be doing right now (I already cleaned the house tonight)

Too bad you're down in PA... otherwise I might invite you for a night of camping in the White Mountains, or maybe on the seacoast...

And maybe we could work on that love making part ;)

Been in the White Mountains...they are beautiful....Also have camped on the coast of main...it was called Jakefish Island I think...canoed on the ocean at night and camped on the Island what a great time....but once again my sleeping bag was empty:( ......oh the things I would do!!!!!

9 more to go.... maybe browsing through Lit isnt the most productive way to finish work??

I heard camping mentioned and just couldn't walk past the door....Oh wait, I see you're studying.

Just as well, this year is my financial recovery year, this summer was explore Boston and the local area, but NEXT summer is the upgrade gear and explore the trails and mountains of the New England area. Maybe a bit of sailing lessons thrown in for good measure too.

English Major eh??? We Engineers are well-known for our ability to relate with those of the Liberal Arts persuasion!! :D
