We are facing uncertain times for sure but this is something I wanted to share with all.

Who knows what state the world will be in one month from now.

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO
IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.

I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.

NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED
A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCH, THE FLOOR FOR A BED?
I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THIER LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

I COULDN'T HELP BUT WONDER
HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
AND STARTED TO CRY.

THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
"SANTA DON'T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;

I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS."

THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.

I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE."

ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, AND TO ALL A GOOD
NIGHT."

This poem was written by a Marine stationed in
Okinawa Japan.

Hey RED, maybe you should post some of your poetry. Since it is always so popular with the downtrodden masses.

LMAO! Red, you deserved that for a heartless and coarse attitude.

Texan, I love how you say so much with so few words. :)

And by the way, that poem brought a tear to my eye. Thank you for posting that one. :)

Thank you for posting this

:rose:

I remember receiving this last year about this time. It makes me wonder about all the men and women serving the country. Again thank you for those that are out there that might be missing dinner with their families this Thanksgiving. Hugs to a special man in my life that I know is doing his duty.

Peace,
Tulip

I have always loved that piece. Thanks for sharing it Syn I have not seen it in some time. We all need a little reality in our lives to be thankful for what we have.

Red, I can honestly say that it is a good thing that you and I will probably never meet face to face.

Thank you 427cobra I think you will see that you speak for the rest of us.

Laine, you're welcome. While I do respect Red for voicing his views, because that can be a very difficult thing to do, his attitude irritates me to no end. Plus, I seem to think his views of U.S. soldiers is very off as I have more than a few friends who had the guts to serve. I can't say that I speak for anybody but me, but I'm more than glad for the company.

For the soldiers serving now I am sure the support you have shown is greatly appreciated.

For those of us remembering our service time I thank you. It is nice to hear most people appreciate the sacrifice made for them, God and Country.

For those individuals who did not have the opportunity to serve in the service but served each in their own way, you are the ones who made it all possible . Again, thank you.

For the nonsupporters you are welcome to your opinion. The soldiers do what they do to give you the opportunity to publicly shame yourselves in the face of the nation as well as to keep the rest of our freedoms free.

Just for the record: Soldiers as used here by me means all of the men and women of all the armed forces of this great nation.

It's thanksgiving day. I am giving my thanks.

Happy thanksgiving to each and every one of you from the Original Synner.

Happy Thanksgiving, Synnerman

And good thoughts for all of those who are separated from their families in the quest of service to others.

It strikes a nerve within me

to know that so many service people right now are protecting this country and unable to be with loved ones. My sincerest Thanks to those that are doing a job that is not alway appreciated. Realize that I appreciate what you do. You are in my thoughts. Happy Thanksgiving. I am sure there are many seats at our dinner tables for the ones we love.

Peace,
Tulip

Happy Thanksgiving to you all also from me and I think this is a very thoughtful thread I wish there was a way to show it to all those lonely people out there somewhere serving our country for us.

A wonderful thought Laine and somehow I think some of them do know and will hopefully tell the rest.

I stand corrected. "Just for the record: Soldiers as used here by me means all of the men and women of all the armed forces of this great nation."

It was pointed out to me I made an error in saying this nation when the statement is true for all soldiers everywhere. Sorry, no slight was intended to anyone.

Nice poem. Figures a marine wrote it. URRAH! I'm part of the well-armed CIVILIAN militia now :D ...
