(Closed for Vail_Indigo and myself... enjoy!!)
Emily cried out. The pain in her shoulder was more than anything she had ever experienced.
Flicking some of her soaking wet hair out of her eyes she glanced through the trees ahead. Thunder rumbled ominously around her and every now and then lightning arced through the sky above to paint the scenery in cold, bluish light.
She was lost.
The day had started nicely enough. She had awoken, amongst her friends, in their modest camp in the middle of the woods. They were only a day into their 3 week long hike and spirits were high. Emily was a happy young woman, in her early 20's, single and free. Although with her curvy figure, ample chest and bright personality, to go with her bright blue eyes and wavy long dark tresses, it wasn't as if she was short of offers for companions.
The friend's had eaten, packed up camp and set off through the trees. Laughing and chatting, swatting at mosquitoes they had walked quite a way before...someone had realised that they'd left the map back at the campsite.
Emily, being the fastest of the group, volunteered to go back for it. Dumping her heavy back pack at the feet of her friends and telling them to wait there, she'd jogged off back down the 'track' that they had been following. Eventually she'd returned to their campsite and after much searching, couldn't find any sign of the map. Unaware her friends had been calling after her not long after she'd set off, one of them had found the map shoved in the bottom of their backpack.
With a sigh, she'd set off back towards them...but the track she was following didn't seem to be going anywhere in particular...she couldn't find her friends...anywhere...
The heat of the day had grown almost unbearable by the afternoon, meaning all she could do was sit next to a tree and wait for it to cool down. With no food, and more importantly, no water. She knew she'd only do herself more damage by trying to keep going in the heat.
Then as it had started to cool down, and grow darker, the storm had started. Panicking a little, she'd tried jogging through the undergrowth and had slipped on a hidden stone and landed awkwardly on her left shoulder, a rock slicing painfully through the thin t-shirt and to her skin below.
The t-shirt and shorts that had seemed too hot during the day, were now soaking wet and clung to her like a freezing second skin.
Shivering, she stumbled onwards, cradling her injured arm as she went.
About to give in, Emily found herself focusing on something glittering through the trees ahead.
It looked like a light.
It looked like a cabin....
With hope re-ignited in her heart, Emily stumbled forwards towards the light.
As she drew nearer to the light she could see it was indeed a cabin. Still shivering as the rain continued to lash down upon her she stumbled forwards, each step jarring her shoulder. The worry that perhaps the cabin would be empty and that merely a light had been left on plagued her imagination, as she could see no real sign of life there other than the light.
Relief flooded her as thought she saw someone moving inside through one of the windows. She carried on, her vision starting to swim a little from hunger and the pain...there was someone there...someone who might be able to help her...
"Please...please help me..." She managed to murmur as she reached the cabin and knocking as desperately as she could upon the door before swaying slightly. Then, with a soft sigh, her body seemed to give up and she began to faint.
