This is not going to be easy because I can't give a good description.
I'm looking for a story which I think was written by a British author and set in Wales.
As I remember it, a man who has lost his wife and goes away to sort himself out. When he's climbing a hill or mountain he almost gets hit by a young woman on a bicycle who he later finds is working as a barmaid in the village pub. They become friends and I think she goes on a hike with him where they get soaked by the rain. They get back to her room where they become lovers.
It's more of a romance than anything and was very well written. The autor had several other stories in their collection.
