Months had passed between the initial discovery, and this momentous occasion. The council on Ethical Science didn't do anything quickly, and this particular discovery was so rife with complexity and controversy, that it seemed like a harmonious resolution would never be reached.
Dr. Regina Martinez, who had made the discovery and therefore had first rights on publication and future studies, had more riding on he council's decision than anyone. She had thought the wait was over when the council declared that reviving the primitive man was the only ethically sound option available, but she had been very wrong, from there they still had another month's worth of debating on his care and conditioning. No one wanted a wild 21st century man running around raping, and killing, or trying to set up a military dictatorship in the midst of their harmonious society, and everyone seemed to think that they alone were the best qualified to handle the unique challenges that would be posed when he was awakened.
Finally it was decided that he would be awakened in an isolated facility with three women to look after his immediate needs, until he was ready to be placed in a permanent residence. Regina would be there to begin her initial psychological/anthropological assessment of her find. Vice President Elaine Patton would be acting in a diplomatic function, providing support and education to help him adjust to the social changes that had occurred over the past four-hundred years. And Dotty Johnson, a professional handler at the top of her field, would see to his general training and domestication.
Regina performed all of the necessary steps to shut down the cryogenic freezer, and initiate the subject's wake-up protocol. Then as recommended she left the room to watch her subject's first waking moments on the monitor. She had attempted to explain to the council that the man would probably wake up lethargic and disoriented, but everyone else agreed that there was too high a risk that he might wake up fighting. So Dotty was assigned to be the first to greet their visitor from the past.
