Wake up!

Awake

Sometimes the heaviest thoughts are the
First after gravity reapplies pain through the joints
And the silence that follows the obnoxious sound
Of a six am start when there's somewhere to be
Is an insolent pause before I become mother and
Worker and wife with the poetry left in that
Liminal space between weightlessness
And sleep

Awake

Sometimes the heaviest thoughts are the worst
Blink, but the twilight fog still clouds your mind
The soft whispering sounds like a seat by an airline's window
Then awareness increases
The feel of being bound by ropes again tenses every muscle
Your face is twisted in a mask
Jerk! Fight! Free!
Then wide awake as gravity grabs the free falling
damn sleep apnea machine and it clatters to the floor, again
Why inspect it?
You know its going to be just like the last two!
