Waiting for story approval is driving me crazy

Hi everyone I'm a longtime reader but I'm new to posting. I just submitted my first story in NonCon/Reluctance and the wait to get it accepted is killing me. I'm on my 3rd attempt so hopefully it gets accepted. I've written short stories in the past for school assignments but I've never had one I thought was good enough to be published here. This story has become a bit of an obsession. I've been working on it every chance I get. Even though the first part hasn't been accepted I went ahead and kept writing. So far I have 7 parts finished and I'm pretty sure that I can wrap the story up in part 8.

I've been traveling for work and a story idea popped into my head. It wouldn't go away. I wasn't even thinking about anything naughty either. For two days this story idea bugged me. So finally I gave in and wrote out a quick outline. It was just the basic plot points and how I wanted it to end. I figured that I'd be able to look at it and see all the things wrong with it and my brain would drop it. Instead I became even more convinced that it could work.

Since I'm away from home I've been reading literotica on my iPhone. I have a work issued laptop and my boss would frown upon it being used to read or write erotica. So I'm forced to write this story using my iPhone notepad. This is such a pain in the ass. The drive to write this story is enough to overcome most of the frustration.

So now I have this story that may never see the light of day because I can't get the first part approved. It's driving me crazy not knowing if it's even good. I know I think it's awesome but I can't show it to anyone in my real life to get any positive or negative feedback. Even the rejections don't give me an idea of how the story is. The first rejection was because I was promoting illegal activity. I sanitized the story and resubmitted. I was rejected the 2nd time because I forgot to include punctuaion inside my quotations. I fixed it and I hope it's good to go.

Thanks for letting me rant. It's hard having no one to talk to about this. I feel better just getting the words out.

1.What illegal activity?
2.You should buy separate devices, for Literotica.
3.Good Luck?
4.John that you?(jokes) Your boss might be on Literotica himself.

Welcome to the World of Anxiety, Moose. Most of us went through something similar with our first submissions (okay, maybe not the rejections, but the seemingly endless waiting to see the story get approved). All I can say, as cliched and annoying as it is, is to be patient. It will eventually go up.

Personally, I've never tried writing a story on a notepad app on a phone. I can't imagine that would be at all enjoyable. I'd suggest picking up a cheap portable word processor. Just doing a quick search revealed a bunch on eBay and Amazon for twenty-five bucks or less. Something like that, at least, might make the writing when away from your desktop easier.

1: I had a couple of different examples. The story centers on a murder and the rejection said that literotica doesn't publish stories that promote murder or harm of others. I also had an underage character. When I was writing I didn't even think about the age thing because she wasn't involved in the sexual part. Stupid on my part I know but I'm a rookie so I'm bound to make mistakes. She was a minor character in the story so her age didn't really matter to the plot. I just had to make her 18 and tweak my timeline to keep it making sense. Making her 18 actually opened up some possibilities to use her later in the plot.

2: I left my personal laptop at home because I didn't think I needed it. I didn't know I was going to try and write a story. I like reading literotica on my iPhone. I can basically read it anywhere. I've even read it during a particularly boring meeting. That was a lot of fun. Trying to get off in a room full of people without anyone knowing is really hot LOL

3: I think I'm going to need it. The story is pretty psycho. Which is why I'm not sure it works.

4: I wouldn't doubt it. I have a government type job and I'm sure my coworkers use their issued laptops for way worse than reading literotica. I just don't want them to know I read it. I'm not a prude. I just don't need them knowing that I like to be held down and dominated. It might undermine my position as a leader. I'm a dominant person in my real life and a submissive in my personal life.

you don't keep going in to the submissions page and click where it says pending, do you? if you do it bumps your submission back to the end of the queue.

That's a common feeling for new authors.

The trick is, in my opinion, while you're waiting for your story to be posted, keep working on other stories to keep your mind preoccupied during its free time.

No but thank you for letting me know. I've been trying to stay away from the submission page. I think I've only clicked on the rejected. The editors have actually been really quick. I think I got a rejection after less than 24 hours the first time and maybe 2 days the 2nd time. I expected it to be way longer. It's more just about me being impatient with the process. Hopefully I relax after getting the first one.

Actually, there is only one person reading all the stories here that are submitted. She is the site owner, Laurel.

You need to learn patience. The best way to learn patience is to harness and leash a cat and take her/him for a walk. Try this for a few days, and LIT's approval delay will seem trivial.

I got so pissed off Tuesday because I had written an entire section of dialog and my phone died. I basically lost the bulk of the story because it didn't save. I wasn't paying attention to the battery because I was on a roll. It was a good thing my iPhone is in an otterbox because I threw that bitch across the room. I wanted to cry. I was seriously tempted to go to the walmart and buy one of those small computers. Instead I just went to bed and started over in the morning. I save it after each paragraph now.

That's crazy! I bow down to her. I figured they had a few different ones. That's a lot of reading for one person. The review process didn't take long at all. I definitely would not want that job.

BTW I have to geek out right now because I love your stories. You are one of my favorite authors to look up when I'm looking for a good story. I was really bored with my usual categories. So I decided to try something new. I don't remember what story it was that brought me to your page but once I was there I was totally hooked. I haven't read them all but I'm slowly working my way through. You are an amazing writer.

Ok geek moment is over

Having an under-age character in a non-sexual role shouldn't usually be grounds for rejection, but if Laurel's skimming accidents can happen. Sounds like you've already found a good work-around, but if it comes up again in the future you should be able to use the Notes field to say something along the lines of "Suzy is 16 but she isn't involved in any sexual activity".

odd about the murder there is a lot of it on here. Unless it was during sex or sexual torture and fell under snuff?

Underage is the only truly enforced rule here. You can have a character under 18 in a non sexual role but you have to be so careful that to me its never been worth it.

As for posting times? Laurel has been 2/3 days of late a few months back it was 8 days at one point so things aren't too tough on that end of things these days

Hey! That's my secret trick! ;)

No snuff but I did have the main character shoot him in the face after he was already dead. That was kind of graphic.

I totally get the whole underage thing especially because I wrote this as a NonCon/Reluctance story. It's also slightly incestous since the main character is forced to have a relationship with her stepfather.

In the original story the main character allowed the stepfather to control her again because she wanted to protect the sister from him. The only reason I added it in at all was to give the main character a plausible reason to return to that life after she had escaped it. He never actually does anything but I could see how it could be taken in that direction because after the rewrite that's exactly where I took it. Once I made her 18 it opened up a new world of possibilities in plot development. It changed the entire reason for the murder. It was very exciting to have that freedom. I won't be making that mistake again.

You are allowed to go wayyy underage - like before fertilization.

I have seen quite a few stories that dealt extensively with semen and though the female ovaries appear to be vastly underrepresented as objects of sexual devotion, I am confident that a story featuring ovarian porn would have no problem gaining approval.

Avian porn is strictly forbidden though.

So...I can write "fucking pigeons", but not about fucking pigeons?

Thanks, SL. I needed a laugh this morning.

Hey. Avian porn is serious business y'know. It's the only kind of porn where the participants can fall and hurt themselves seriously if they get distracted and lose concentration.

Well ok, technically pilot porn has the same problem... but pilots don't have to flap anything to stay aloft...
