I'm not a native English speaker, so I asked an AI for help. The story I made is 100% my work, I just relied on AI to help me with the English. I submitted the first chapter of my story, waited two weeks for them to return it, and they told me I needed to fix my story. I accept that I'm not a native English speaker, that's okay.

I'm sorry that happened to you, but all is not lost. You need to do the following.

1 You need to find an editor through the Volunteer Editor program here on Lit (or, failing that, a fellow Lit author with multiple stories under their belt). It might be worthwhile to look for a fellow countryman, whichever country that might be.

2 You need to go through your story, to the best of your ability, and highlight all of the areas you used the AI for help.

3 That editor needs to help you rewrite those sections/rewrite them for you, replacing every word

4 That editor needs to PM Laurel, the site moderator, on your behalf and explain that the two of you have made a good faith effort to rewrite your story after a rejection for AI. Laurel will say "let me know when they resubmit"

5 Resubmit your story, adding "Edited by so and so" in the Notes to the Admin field

6 The editor needs to immediately PM Laurel, notifying her that you have resubmitted

If you have followed these steps earnestly, acknowledging and attempting to move forward, I have confidence that your story will go up.

Bear this in mind. If you used AI to help you with a few sections here and there where you weren’t sure how to phrase things in English, its a pretty straight forward fix. If you used AI help for, say, more than 30% of the story, that's asking a lot from a volunteer and they would be well within their right to say no.
