First of all I'd like to say kiaora and morena to our Kiwi whanau accross the ditch.

I've watched many, many videos this morning of goings on and I've gotta say. I am so impressed by everyone and the respect and the peacefulness of it all. I've been to Waitangi many, many times and have a lot of fond memories of the kai there and jumping off the bridge as a child with all the other kids. I wasn't able to attend for the 150 years as my mother thought it wouldn't be safe for me. That was the year the Queen attended.

This year in particular though, I really wish I was there to mark the 180 years. Something is different this year. I see smiling faces everywhere. People are happy with their leader and some things I've never seen before!

Jacinda is just... Wow. Being part Maori myself I am in awe of the fact that she asked to go out on the waka and to paddle. Is she the first female PM ever to do that? And to be allowed to stand on the porch of that whare runanga and speak? What's going on? I'm blown away. Blown away.

It's almost like a family day. She took her partner Clark and their baby and it's just... So beautiful. She also helped out with prayer and the morning bbq cooking the bacon. Could you imagine being served breakfast by the PM on Waitangi Day? It's crazy. :D

What a delight she is.

I don't know what has changed, but honestly. Ataahua Aotearoa.
