I'm having to travel to the island for work. What's fun there during my down time? Plan on seeing AZ Memorial. What else?

The various military bases all have museums.

Hanggliders on the windward side, by Kaneohe.

Don't know if or when they still do the bed races down Kapiolani Blvd. But those are fun, models in the beds in lingerie, lots of eye candy.

And there are a number of clubs with good music in various styles.

Tell the people at your hotel what you are into, they can give you some tips.

Like stay off hotel street. 8)

Another Naval exhibit/tour is the USS Bowfin, a Fleet Submarine from WW2. It was one of six "Hellcats" that got past the minefield guarding Tokyo Bay and the subs raised holy hell there. The mission was eventually declassified and made into a Hollywood movie "Hellcats of the Navy".

Snorkeling in Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve. Paying $7.50 to swim at a beach in an island paradise already surrounded by warm, crystal clear waters would seem counter-intuitive to say the least. Why then is this one of the most popular swimming holes in Oahu?

Because the huge protected inner reef is like swimming in a tropical fish bowl. Mask, fins and snorkel may be rented at the beach. Take a pass on buying fish food. You'll see plenty of beautiful fish without making yourself the object of a feeding frenzy of tang, sun fish and small grouper.

Get there early. Parking lots fill up fast. Long, steep downhill (uphill) walk is avoided by paying $2 for tram ride.

why not have some traditional fun like overthrowing the monarchy so you can annex their territory and use it as a naval base?

Id just sit on the beach with some cold ones and people watch, enjoy the view and get some food.

You don't go to Hawaii to see museums or boats....other than the AZ of course thats a must do.

Been there, done that. No, for real fun, we need to trigger volcanic eruptions. Some of Mauna Loa's lava spews generated tsunami waves cresting over 1000ft / 300m in Peru. Entertaining, yes? And don't omit the possibility of tentacle sex.

I hear the crystal meth grows on the side of the road there...

O'Tooles on the corner of Merchant and Nu'uanu my favorite watering hole.. Smoking is allowed there so if that bothers you, Murphy's across the street is a nice place as well. Niko's Fish Market has the the best Poke', Aisha's Market is very good as well and has the best smoked Tako. Waikiki is overpriced, you'll be paying tourist prices there for sure. Kapiolani Blvd. where the titty bars are.. Many of the Filipino/Thai joints one can get "full service";)
