Why is it called "double U" when it is a double V?

I have a suspicion that it was uu when it was originally conceived, but then evolved into the double vv that we know and hate today.

It depends on what font you're using. a lower case 'w' is rounded in many fonts and actually looks like its name.

It's also pronounced like the uu in vacuum when it's pretending to be a vowel.

it depends on what language you are using...in French, it's called a double-v.

Ever since Dubya, the W has taken on a negative connotation. It's really quite sad how an innocent letter can lose its good reputation because of the incompetencies of some pampered fool from Texas.

Most folks, down here, don't consider him incompetent or a fool, pampered yes.
