I just noticed that the number of votes on some of my stories went DOWN. How is that possible?

That means that Literotica did a sweep. What that does is get rid of any double votes and one bombs. Your score probably either went up or done also.

Well, kid, I'm glad you asked. Here at Literotica, ya got whatcha call yer trolls. Yer troll's basic purpose in life is to take a work of literature and, as fast as it can scroll down to the end of the story, leave it a vote of "1," the lowest vote it can cast on a story. That would be a one-bomb. Yer trolls are attracted to any stories, but particularly favor ones with little red H's (those would be yer basic "hot" stories, with an average vote of 4.5 or higher - like all of yours) and ones with little green E's (which denote "editor's choices"). Usually, the PTB (powers that be) clear those out during sweeps, which take place periodically, but always take place while contests are going on.

So you've been posting for five years and never had this happen before?

Hm, yanno, I read a pretty good story on Lit involving little fuckers under the bridge.

I wrote the first story 5 years ago but have only posted here recently. I never looked at the number of votes before - I just watched the score.
I was thrilled that all my stories had the red H - I hope the 'trolls' don't remove them...

There are lots of stories with fuckers here at Lit. Damn few without, in fact. Little, big, under bridges, in airplanes. You mean "little" in the sense of small or petite, of course. Little fuckers who are under the age of 18 have to stay under the bridge, in the darkness, until they come of age.

Usually they strike when a story first comes out. I wouldn't worry about them now unless you do something to attract their attention, like posting a thread in the Story Feedback Forum that gives everyone else a chance to talk about them.

Uh-oh.

I'm just sayin' ya got yer bulls over here, and ya got yer red flags over here, and when ya put 'em together...

But there I go talking like a - what was it, Dani? - oh, yes, a car salesman. By the way, Dani has a book coming out at the end of the month under her pseudonym, Wendy Stone (rather than her real name, Danielle Kitten?). Check out the hot-looking exterior finish on the cover, and be assured that there'll be plenty of power to play with once you get inside.

i just saw my rating go drop .5 points , its still a new story but do you think i've been bombed at or did someone really not like it - how does literotica know which is which? theres not that many votes so each one sorta makes a big difference right now .

Without knowing the exact conditionals put on the sweep, I can't say for sure. One thing is certain, a troll looks at new postings a little bit like a can of Pringles. Once they pop, they just can't stop.

One thing I'd put into the sweeps is multiple votes of 1 in a short period of time from the same IP. If someone does that, they're probably just voting out of spite with no regard to the actual story.

The sweeper is far from perfect. I normally write in niche categories with fewer readers, but those who vote have a high probability of commenting either in email or leaving a PC. When you have 18 votes, 10 PCs, and six signed emails, it's fairly easy to determine that 16 votes are from different people. I have one with numerous emails and 10 PCs ( most signed ), yet the sweeper has blasted it for over three times the number of votes ( 8 ) that it has remaining. I can account for all but about three of those missing votes, so I know the sweeper is a bit myopic *laugh*

If you don't have very many votes, it only takes one lackluster vote to really change your score. Even a four vote can drastically change a score that is primarily 5s with a low vote total. It means the reader liked your story quite a bit, but the score is still going to drop.

That's erroneous logic, Dark. I've had private emails arrive without any extra votes on my stories. Painful when they're highly complimentary on a story languishing in a low 4 rating, but what can you do?

Not really. I have email notification running all the time. When I get a vote and an email within five minutes of each other, that's fairly conclusive. Not perfect, but well within reasonable doubt.

No matter what, I've still got 10 PCs and 8 remaining votes. The Lit sweeper is myopic *laugh*

Agree with Starrkers

I agree with Starrkers. I frequently get very nice e-mails on stories with no change in the voting score at all.

Guess we should just be grateful that the system does whatever periodic scrubbing it can on whatever criteria it uses.
