Having posted a number of stories - 20 so far - I have noticed that the scores I'm getting are taking a turn for the worse on a couple of recent posts. Modesty aside, I don't think they are any worse than previous contributions, all of which have averaged over 4.0, the majority over 4.5. But the last two stories in my series "Bad Penny" have both hit lows in the 3 range, chapter three rallying to just over 4, and chapter 4 now hitting 3.8. In the early stages both stories had very high scores - first ten votes being all fives or all fives and one four. (the Maths is easy)
Since I have been keeping an eye on this I have been able to easily detect that I am getting 5's and 1's.
I suspect that the low marks are being given because the story has certain elements of bi-curious experimentation and partner sharing, which is the sort of thing that often appears in the lovin wives section and often gets nasty comments from trolls. My other main story series that I am currently posting on is totally straight sex, although some group and swapping goes on, and this has not displayed the same pattern of votes.
Perhaps it would be worth instituting a weighted averaging system - discount the lowest and highest five or ten percent of the votes to weed out unreasonable haters and biased friends and family?
I was wondering if anyone else had noticed a similar pattern?
