Voting on Threads

It's getting so I shudder when I see another set of "votes" on a thread. If you want to vote your own threads, please don't hesitate -- but I doubt very much that ANYONE (let alone FIVE people) can read 300+ posts and vote in under two hours -- and sometimes less.

I could log in as all my me's and do the same... padding authors I like or voting down ones I am not crazy about without reading the first word. The voting system is faulty and I, for one, refuse to recognize it. Just my opinion, for what it's worth -- Me, I'd rather a PM that is sincere (good or bad) from someone who has indeed read the thread than 20 bad votes from some who have not.

What do you think about it?

And yes, this has been done and discussed before. Want to see what previous writers had to say about Lit's voting system?? Rating system: Looking for opinions

WOW!!!

Will you look at that?? NINE votes of five each. Great thread, right??

*going to get my friend who has 20+ personna to vote now*

Damn, I was going to vote on this thread but guess it is a mute point now.

'nuff said fair Maid, I don't even vote or look at the votes anymore. See you in the funny pages...

sort of noticed the voting thing goin on. I don't even go by them or anything, but seems like every thread that goes up now is required to have a voting. I have seen threads w/ only a few posts getting 5 stars! Just wondering why all of the voting all of a sudden? Does it really mean something??

:D gee, it's up to 11 now... wonder how THAT happened?!?!

Make it 12! This is one of the best threads ever!

Serious suggestion - would it not be possible to have a list called up whereby if you clicked on the stars, it would show who had voted on that thread (not necessarily who voted which score)? Might start showing a pattern of some sort.

How unobservant am I? I just noticed three days ago that there even is a voting option. LoL So I guess I wasn’t really paying too much attention then and thus probably won’t in the future either.

I’m just glad the stuff I write has been read by at least two or three other folks.

I didnt know about the voting system until it was brought to my attention, and i do agree with Maid of Marvels, I would love to have PMs from people telling me if they like what I am writing or not. So please, if you read any story that I am helping to write, let me and the other writer(s) know what you think, good or bad, all feedback helps us to know how we are doing and if we need to change things or not.

Thanks!

I have to agree that the thread voting tool is pretty much useless. Personal feedback should have more weight and credence since you are receiving concrete commentary on the work.

Best,

M

Ladies I agree. I wish the star system would fade away in favor of author feed back.

Yet Maid we have been down this road before.

Now that I have noticed, I can't unsee the stupid stars. ~grumble~

I think I'd rather my story be unrated, then rated worst. It's more then a bit discouraging and I thought it was going so well.

sorry I just needed to gripe a lil.

Anyone got a bandaide for my ego? :D

Why, I pretty much pick and chose who I write with. I think I write with some talented people, you included. As far as the stars go, they don’t mean squat. And I certainly know what you mean about having time. I don’t seem to have any time anymore. Where’d it go?

I used to rush to get the next post up, but I didn’t like what I was writing so I slowed down, as you can tell. I have to think on the post, it is a story after all, not a ‘see how many posts I can get up’. I really don’t know how some do it.

Sorry Sultry, I got no Band-Aids. You don’t mind if I call you by your first name do you, or do you prefer Miss Shade. I did go and read your threads though, nice work. PM to follow.

I never pay attention to the stars, I only look at the number of reads each post gets. That seems to me to be a better indicator as to how many is reading the story. Of course that can be manipulated as well, but most won’t take the time to keep clicking on the last post.

I just come here to write, if people like me writing fine, if not, don’t read me. So like appleapps, Why, Morgana, and cgraven all said above, personal feedback is what matters most. So if you like someone’s post or the whole story let them know.

Aww thanks Graybeard, you can call me Shade, thats what most folks shorten too. :) I'm honored that you read my threads, and appreciate any feedback you may have.

I'm just feeling a lil put out by the stars I guess. Not to worry bout the bandaide, I managed to put together a decent tourniquet.

I like the idea of pms for feedback. In the future as I read through the SRP I'll be sure to let those I enjoy know.

yeah! yeah!! Would love to get PM's to tell me you like my post or writing. :)

But here’s the other side of the coin Sexy. Would you like it if someone told you they didn’t like your writing? Hmmmm? And no, I am not criticizing you, I’ve not read any of your writing. But on the other hand, if someone has something to say that might improve my writing I am all for that. Beat me with a club and pock me in the eye with a sharp stick, till I get better.;)

I would find it hard to respond to anothers work if I did not like it. I think it would put me in an uncomfortable spot, unless of course they straight out asked my opinion. Then of course I'd try to do so with as much intelligence and tact as I could.

I'd just be less inclined to give negative feedback to someone I only read who I haven't yet conversed with.

Just got an appreciative PM for a thread the other night, and it really made me feel that I was doing a great job.

Far better than stars.

Of course, at the same time, I do hope readers with critiques will also PM me and give their opinions.

I havent heard from anyone that I havent talked to before, but the ones I have heard from have been very supportive and praising,,,,,,,, but I have told them about this thread because I knew that they would also tell me if something was wrong or didnt sound right also.

Ok, my two bits

and sixpence more, perhaps?

we all seem to agree we have basic rights, 1st amendment sort of things

but writing here is a pleasurable escape and a privelage to me

not a right, it was created by laurel and manu and if they ever decided?

(shudder)

we are all guests here. though as I will confess I've often forgot to remove my shoes in my haste to enter this sacred site.

The star system was created in good faith and hopes.

But is apparent it's not only overused but MIS used.

Any hope to newcomers in the form of it being support to thier writing skills has become in my opinion...false

I now ignore it. I'd rather have a PM, good or bad...at least it's more personal and gives me the chance to thank the sender, good or bad...

Sure I have an ego and like it stroked, I believe we all do or else why make public what we could do in private?

But the star system has become a mockery
