Just wanted to remind all of you to keep voting on all the stories you read - the ones you love and even the ones you hate.

It really helps us authors to know what the general concensus of the readers is - and we learn that through seeing who makes it to the Top 20 board.

So, please, when you make it through a story, whether old or new, take the time to click on a category and vote!! :)

Voting on Stories

Second the reminder.

I discovered the site about a month ago and have voted on every story I've read...most are DAMN GOOD. Tawny T got a few SUPERB ratings. She is a very talented writer. I'm impressed with the quality of the submissions and have a few in queue. I hope they're enjoyed but the only way I'm going to know, and be inspired to write more, is if they're voted upon.

voting on stories

Yes, I agree with you Hullo Nurse....even I vote on stories even if I don't like them. If everyone who read one, voted, the top list would change a lot more often.

I always vote! Especially after I discovered it doesn't change pages or new browser windows don't pop up. Just a little idiot box that says thanks for voting click on okay! I can take 10 seconds out of my frightfully busy reading schedule to vote without much frustration!

Hullo nursey, you just got an outstanding vote from me!

Can I use exclamation points any more?!

I agree with all the comments. I asked Laurel how many votes it took to make first place. Never did hear back. I was interested in how many people are actually voting. I have no idea at all.

She said that Lit gets some 1/2 million hits a day! But some of the chat room people don't even know that there is a story section here!

I'm glad to see Laurel changing the ratings sooner. I love to see new stories up there from some of the new writers, and old writers as well. Vote by all means.

I agree with all the comments. I asked Laurel how many votes it took to make first place.

Oh, crap! I had a long explanation and I guess I didn't send it to you... It's not how many, but how high the average. I don't have exact numbers right now, but I will say the percentage of people who vote vs. read is shockingly low. We're working on ways to encourage voting and allow readers to not only vote but actually leave comments after the story. That's all in the works, so stay tuned!

Actually, we get 1 million pageviews sitewide every day, and about 50,000-70,000 uniqe visitors in that time. Waaaay beyond my expectations, I'll tell you that!

Record of visits to our stories

It would be great if we knew how many visits our stories were receiving!

Kisses to Laurel from ze WomanLOVAIRE!!

I've been mulling this idea over in my mind for a while.

Laurel, have you ever considered having top lists for the different categories? That way more writers could get included, and readers could access top stories in their favorite categories easily. (The current Top 20 doesn't list categories.)

Just a suggestion... <winks>

hostile takeover

best story i have read on this site, was the continuing Hostile Takeover series. fun stuff. started out rough animal lust combined with sophistication, and concluded with heartlifting lovemaking and even a change of heart.
brilliant!

Holy crap! I opened this thread to see if Laurel had posted a reply to my Top List suggestion, only to find a terrific comment about my story! What a wonderful surprise. I feel like whistling!

Thanks very much, Crestfallen, and welcome to the board. (Please don't burst my bubble and tell me that "Takeover" was the ONLY story you've read on the site...<chuckles and winks>)

IN REFERENCE TO BOTH SUBJECTS IN THIS ONE THREAD!!!

WHISPERSECRET, that was an interesting subject matter that you had mentioned. However, being that it was more of a personal inquiry, it would have been more fit as a new thread outside of the original subject that was introduced by Hello_Nurse. But be that as it may, it was an interesting topic and needed to be asked. I, for one, would be interested to know the ratings of stories in each individual category, as opposed to posting the stories into one Top 20 list and uncaterorized.
As for the original subject, I know of only one other erotica website that, as Hello_Nurse suggested, records all views and visitors as well as votes of each submitted story. I find it surprising how there may be thousands of visitors reading the stories but less than 50 votes posted. In that sense, your story may not always receive ratings but at least you'll know that thousands of readers may or may not have enjoyed reading your story(ies).
How does that sound to you, Laurel?

GuyJD - that's in the new script.

Laurel, have you ever considered having top lists for the different categories? That way more writers could get included, and readers could access top stories in their favorite categories easily. (The current Top 20 doesn't list categories.)

That's in the new script, too. :)

Possible reason for low voting rate

Above, it has been pointed out that the number
of readers (or viewers, anyway) of a story far
far exceeds the number who rate it. I suggest
that one possible reason is that some viewers may
download the story and read it at leisure off-
line, never returning to vote. To be honest,
that is exactly what I do, even though I am
also an author here! I check the new story
list, download those that seem of interest and
then, later, off-line, refine the initial
decision in terms of actual reading of some of
the downloaded stories. I wonder how common
this is?

I think New Anon is probably right. That is how I read stories. I very rrarely read them online, and seldom return to vote on them.

GuyJD, your rebuke made me smile. I actually think that my question about categorized Top Lists was more appropriate here than in a separate thread, but you're certainly entitled to your opinion! <winks>

Thanks in advance for the new script, Laurel! I can't wait to see it! <smooches>

Duh I keep writing but ferget to vote.

I usually post a letter or email about stories I like but never thought how important the votes were until my stories started getting posted now I keeep looking to see if I'm in the running yet!!! Yes I'll start voting all the time now!!!

Thanks fer the hint Hullo_Nurse

Ps Laurel You mentioned very few people vote considering your hits. I have seen figures that 1 in 800 hits takes action beyond clicking from page to page. If you are doing better than that your are doing good. I know from experience in running a pay site hits from a big list like Tommy's get about one membership in 800. I think what you might find if you could get enough stats information is that the vetrans who visit the site all the time and especially fellow writers vote more often.
