voting for your own stories

Do you do it? If so, do you automatically give your submission a 5 even if you think it's worth less or do you give it whatever number you feel it deserves? Do you even submit something that you honestly feel is not 5-worthy? And assuming you only vote once, is it poor form to vote for yourself?

I do vote for my own stories. IMHO Every story I turn out is worth a 5. I hold this opinion for as long as it takes someone to point out the flaws in it (2 weeks is the record).

I don't think it's bad form to vote for yourself (well I wouldn't would I?). You're allowed to do it in General Elections.

Sure I vote for my stories and yes I give them a five. Sometimes I regret it when I reread them later and see what a mess I've made of them, but honestly I wouldn't post anything that I didn't think was good enough for that mark.

But the main reason I vote is because I know that stories with higher marks get read more and isn't having them read the main reason we post here in the first place?

I basically follow the same idea as Jayne. After the first few days a story gets posted, it gets buried in the thousands of other stories, good and bad. After that the only real way to make it noticeable to readers is to get it on a top list. The search engine as it is now is not very helpful to readers searching out stories. So I do vote my stories a "5" for that reason if no other.

I think its fair to vote once for yourself. I also think maybe its fair, if you had a decent score and it takes a sudden dip for no apparent reason to give yourself a little bump.

I can see where its tempting to be the first person to vote for yourself and give yourself 20 5's so your on the toplist and get read, but I prefer to wait and see what I get naturally before I even toss in my vote. Besides, if we go to the toplist and get sub-par stories, we may stop relying on those too.

I used to vote for my stuff all the time. Vote early, vote often. What's a few extra fives here and there? Specially when Laurel removed 'em anyway. Then it one day hit me in mid-1-voter rant. Duh. And I pretty much only vote for my stuff if it dips below a 2 anymore. I think. I don't really remember. The upshot is that I now never log out so it lets me know.

Honestly, I would have to start taking something for the ol' attention deficit disorder before I could summon the mental energy to vote for myself. I would much rather use my time playing with myself. The payoff is better.

I didn't realize this multiple vote thing was done. By Laurel and Manu's rules, I always knew I have one vote per story. That's what I use when I vote for my story or anyone elses for that matter. I want to help give my stories good starts, not pump them up until the scores are worthless. What would be the point in that?

Actually, it doesn't matter whether we vote for ourselves or not, One Vote won't change the average much after 10 votes have been cast. True, I hate the snerts who go around voting 1's for no apparent reason at all, and they can change the average drastically. But one 5 vote really doesn't change a thing, so I don't bother to vote on my own stories. Besides, there no such thing as a perfect 5 story anyway. Though don't quote me on that. LOL

yeah, i give myself a 5 on every story. I figure that there will be one or two people who vote it down for no good reason, and I have to cancel them out as best I can = ) I don't see any problem with voting for yourself. I pat myself on the back for things all the time = ) somebodies got to, right?
