Hi Guys

Look, I just posted my first erotic story here a few days ago ( the nude day contest ) and I keep wondering, how many votes is a good result ? I mean, what's the average for a decent story ?

Also, does each reader who votes count as making 1 vote regardless of whether they grade a story 1 or 5, or does the grading system allocate a number of votes according to how a reader graded the story ?

Sorry for sounding like a trainspotter, but I can't stop thinking about it.:)

Voats

Dear Slutlet,
Vote numbers vary greatly from story to story. Obviously, the more people who read it, the more votes you get. I think something like 1% of the people who read the story actually vote.

There are no restrictions on the number of votes. I think it's only one vote per person, though.

Good luck,
MG
Ps. What's a 'trainspotter?'

Ignore. Votes.

The average is a lot higher than 3.0. People who don't like it usually bail out before voting. It's all meaningless. If you see someone with H for 'hot' against every single one of their stories - read them. Apart from that, forget it. Don't worry. Write well.

Someone who spots trains? Oh, look, there's one.

I actually started this post to take the piss, but now I think about it if you don't know it is an odd concept. Let me explain.

Trainspotters are sad individuals who sit on railway platforms noting down the engine numbers of every single train until they have them all, at which point they presumably go and throw themselves under the next one as they have nothing better to do with their lives. Still, it's no different from birdspotting, really, is it?

Which is not to say, if you don't mind, that you shouldn't read the stories of those of us without an H next to all our stories.

On this subject, BTW, my last story is racking up votes faster than all my other stories put together, though the average score is well below 4.5, too low for an H, which some of the others have. It is the first story submitted whose title starts with an A. Coincidence?

Votes are fun things to have a lot of, but don't let it get to you if it appears you haven't got as many as the reader numbers suggest you should have, very few readers bother to vote.

If your story makes 4.5 to 5 on the vote scale for any length of time, it's a beauty.

If your first story manages to hold above 4 for a good length of time you've produced a good one.

3 and above it's considered a bit average but still worth a read and vote.

Below 3, think about changing your style of writing or something.

I'm sure you're going to maintain a good vote though and don't let the odd 1 votes fool you or worry you, they aint about bad writing, they're usually about vindictive little shits on literotica feeling threatened in some way.

pops..........Good luck and welcome to the madhouse.

This is what trainspotting is about.

All the other songs are v.good too.

Brits try Bullseye for fun.

I've just re-read my original post, and realised how much I needed this spliff.

Thanks for all the feedback, anyhow. And a trainspotter is . . . well, you know Ewan Mcgregor ? A trainspotter's the opposite.

Re: Vote #

For the contests I've found that I usually get quite a few votes - 100 or so. Of course, I submitted to the (1) contest I've entered very early. The later you submit, the less votes you'll get.

Depending on the categories, different numbers come out average in my experience. Poetry gets shitty, shitty votes - you're lucky to get more than 5. Most people who get the high vote #'s (not scores, just counting) are people who are very good and well known in the category.

For BDSM I've found the average to be abotu 15 - once you get that many if you're on the toplist you'll slowly accumulate more.

The lowest number of votes go for Non-Erotic, obviously because less people read that category...this is an erotica site, after all.

The highest number of votes seem to go for Mature and (dun dun dun) INCEST. The ONE incest story I submitted gave me 200 votes in the first couple days, and tons and tons of feedback. It rates pretty well, but with the highest in incest being something like 4.9 (UNHEARD OF!) it's hardly on the charts. I submitted a Mature story and got about 150 votes.

Basically, since you're appealing to different audiences, the more 'popular' categories are going to get higher numbers of votes.

Good luck, and just don't pay attention. Look at your feedback, that's all that's important from the readers. For everything else, look to your own enjoyment. Don't let anything get you down.

Hey, you're right about the feedback. I just read through mine, and got a real lift. Must start paying other authors the same compliment.
