Votes...just wondering.

After writing a few stories and watching them get modest hits, usually, nothing more than 30,000 and 100 votes, once I started posting incest stories my vote and hit meter skyrocketed.

My story, Escalator Stripped My Mother-in-law Naked has received more than 80,000 hits and 440 votes while my story, Sex With My Sister-in-law, Samantha has thus far received more than 48,000 hits and more than 830 votes.

My Exhibitionist and Voyeur stories are better written than these but they have languished on the board and (sniff, sniff) died.

I was just wondering if there is a record being kept for stories that receive the most votes. Unfortunately, I have a following of bashers from the Voyeur Web's now defunct My Story board who have followed me here to make sure that my new stories do not make the hot list by keeping my scores to 4.48 (lol).

I wish my humor stories, albeit better stories, such as Glen, Hey, It's A Guy Thing, I love How My Woman Looks, and What If Roles Were Reversed, received as much attention.

The only list that I know of is the Toplists. But those are highest rated stories (with at least 10 votes), not the most voted on stories.

Some stories get several hundred thousand hits. Some get hundreds, sometimes thousands of votes. It depends on two things -

1) The catagory makes a lot of difference. Sci-Fi, Humor and Non-Human don't have a lot of readers, so the views and votes tend to be low. Loving Wives, Incest and Romance have many, many readers so the opposite it true.

2) Your following, in other words, how long have you been around, how many storys you have and how well known are you. First time writers typically don't do too well. Older, established writers tend to collect a following of readers.

Actually, if you look at the first page of each catagory in the top lists, you'll find those stories typically all have the most reads and votes (adjusted for the catagory popularity, of course). You wll also see that the same 5 to 10 writers tend to dominate the top list in each catagory.

Awful lot of scatter there, though.

True, Jomar. I've had stories in the number 1 position a number of times. The problem is, once a story reaches the top ten, an alarm goes off and the trolls decend from the firey pits of hell to trash it.

Most of my stuff is in Parody/Humor. Most the first page on the top list is Selena Kitten, DanielKitten, Ogg, me, Sox and a few others. It always seems to work like that.

Yeah, I got a small thrill to be number two in Fetish the other day. Then it disappeared down the list somewhere. I guess it says a story is pretty strong if it can withstand the troll and stay close to the top. Even so, the top two Fetish stories have 13 and 14 votes! How did the authors bribe the trolls?

Maybe so, but you've got #22 on Parody/Humor, above those well respected authors on that category. Well done. :)

Thank God for sweeps, Jomar. I've seen a story drop from #1 to 120 in just hours, then return to the top 10 a few days later. Laural looks after us :)

I had one drop from #4 to out of the toplist completely with one vote. When you've got less than 20 votes, it doesn't take much!

I had that with a story I wrote recently. Score was at about 4.6 then fell to 4.4 ish the jumped to near 4.8 before falling back to mid 4.5s.

Was fun to watch though.

Forgive a naive question, but where can the vote totals and ratings of other author's stories be seen? I know how to see the ratings of my own stories, but not anyone elses.

Where are theses "top lists"?

Where are theses "top lists"? I *have* looked around the site, but I can't find them.

EDIT: Never mind. I found them.

If you go into 'Toplists' you can access the most read and highest voted stories. Going into the category sections will tell you every story's score but not the number of 'clicks'.

Why are we all so obsessed with scores' it's like the NFL.

Don't compare your vote-scores with the other authors. That leads down a path you don't want to go. Write what you want and don't worry about score. If we all did that, we'd all write the same story. Diversity is the key.

Tell that to the residents of the NY Bestsellers list - I guess they are counting sales, though.

Wanting to be popular is no sin, but as she says, if you sacrifice your soul to the scores you will sink.

I hate the NY Bestsellers list. Those are all formula books. I honestly believe someplace, there is a computer that does nothing but crank those out under various names.

Nah, it's not a computer. It's those monkeys trying to write Hamlet.
