Votes going ... down?

This might be in the wrong place, and if it is, I'm sorry about that.

I recently submitted a story, and a short time later I submitted an edited version. However, I've noticed that the votes have been continuously going down which I thought was kind of weird.

I had about 60 votes before I submitted the edited and now I'm down to 49. It seems that each time someone votes, it decrements as opposed to incrementing.

Any idea on why this is happening? Something to do with me submitting an edit?

Thanks.

Calling Dr. Jackson . . . Dr. Jenny Jackson . . . ;)

Votes fluctuate according to actual voting and a process called 'sweeps' that removes suspicious votes. It happens to everyone.

More so during a contest, which is going on right now.

And yes, we need Jenny. :D

Trolls leave a slimy, corrosive residue when they visit your story. As a result, a few votes here and there may disintegrate. It's perfectly natural, but never, ever touch it. :)

Aww, thanks guys that really helps. I guess it's removing a bunch of low votes because each vote that's removed, the story rating goes up. :)

Hurrah!

(Although if one thinks about this too long - and clearly I have - one realizes that it means one's enemies outnumber one's admirers. Oh dear.)

(Don't worry, though. Your writing will be as lovely as ever.)
