GREENSBORO, N.C. –The presidential election is just around the corner and voting issues have already become a problem in Guilford County.

On Monday, several voters complained that their electronic ballot machine cast the wrong vote. All the complaints were made by people who voted at the Bur-Mil Park polling location.

One of the voters, Sher Coromalis, says she cast her ballot for Governor Mitt Romney, but every time she entered her vote the machine defaulted to President Obama.

“I was so upset that this could happen,” said Coromalis.

Guilford County Board of Elections Director George Gilbert says the problem arises every election. It can be resolved after the machine is re-calibrated by poll workers.

“It’s not a conspiracy it’s just a machine that needs to be corrected,” Gilbert said.

After the third try, Coromalis says she was able to get her vote counted for Gov. Romney but was still annoyed.

“I should have just mailed it in,” Coromalis said.

Marie Haydock, who also voted at the Bur-Mil Park polling location, had the same problem.

“The frustration is… every vote counts,” said Haydock.

Elections officials say the machines have been fixed as of Tuesday, and no problems have been reported since.

Early voting ends November 3.

Problem found at board of elections

Incorrect inputs irritate voter

MARION — Joan Stevens was one of several early voters at the polls on Monday. But when Stevens tried to cast her ballot for president, she noticed a problem.

Upon selecting “Mitt Romney” on the electronic touch screen, Barack Obama’s name lit up.

It took Stevens three tries before her selection was accurately recorded.

“You want to vote for who you want to vote for, and when you can’t it’s irritating,” Stevens said.

Stevens said she alerted Jackie Smith, a board of elections member who was present. Smith declined to comment, but Stevens says she mentioned that the machine had been having problems all day.

Stevens also reported the issue to Sophia Rogers, the director of the board of elections for Marion County.

Rogers said the machine worked fine when she and others tried voting on it. No one else had reported problems with the voting machines malfunctioning.

Rogers suggested the issue may have been caused by not hitting the button directly or tapping with more than one finger. Stevens was aware the machine had to be operated a certain way.

“I know how to do the voting,” Stevens said.

Despite no problems with that particular machine, Rogers decided to take all precautions. She contacted the vendor and had them inspect the device.

“Because of her issue, we had that machine recalibrated,” Rogers said. “I am certain the equipment works properly.”

Rogers said that those still skeptic about using the electronic stations have the option of filling out a paper ballot, even voting from home and mailing via absentee ballot.

Voting in-person is open daily to all voters at 222 West Center Street through Election Day on November 6. All qualified Ohio voters can also submit an absentee ballot by filling out a form found at the Marion elections website at marionelections.com

its NOT a mishap

when it happens ONLY one way and many States

ITS FRAUD

These are the same kinds of people who blame a mechanical malfunction when they apply the gas instead of the brake.

Other States as well

and ONLY ONE WAY

WHY?

WE KNOW WHY!

JIGGERY-POKERY: RNC pushes 6 states to fix machines that give Romney votes to Obama.

Following reports that swing state voters attempting to cast a ballot for Mitt Romney saw the machine check President Obama’s name instead, the Republican National Committee is pushing six states to ensure that ballots are properly cast.

“I understand that, in a significant number of cases, voting machines in your states have populated a vote for Barack Obama when a voter cast his or her ballot for Mitt Romney,” wrote RNC chief counsel John Phillipe to secretaries of state in Nevada, Ohio, Kansas, North Carolina, Missouri, and Colorado. “I further understand that the causes of this problem are varied, and include miscalibration and hyper-sensitivity of the machines,” he acknowledged. But he called for four actions at the state level:

1. All voting machines be recalibrated before Election Day.

2. Additional technicians in the event of further issues.

3. Sign notification reminding voters to double-check the correctness of their ballot in the machine before final submission.

4. Verbal guidance to remind voters to make sure that the ballot they cast is correct.

“I believe these common-sense steps will greatly assist voters on Election Day,” he wrote.

Indeed.

Voter fraud is different than machines not working properly. The instances of voter fraud are so low they're laughable. Just another right wing bug-a-boo. When you have trouble getting people to vote for you you'll think of any excuse for losing.

when MACHINES

in MULTIPLE STATES

malfunction

ONLY ONE WAY

Means ONLY ONE THING:cool:

In Minnesota, we check off the ballot, let the machine suck it in, but never really get to verify it read our ballot correctly.

Voter fraud comes in all races and nationalities. Still, it is interesting that the only "malfunctions" are taking votes from Romney and casting them for Obama.

You did not read any of those links did you? If you think that these malfunctions are anything other than computer or human-computer interaction error you're hopeless.

The actual instances of voter fraud are hilariously low. I'm just wasting cyberspace but read this, or this, hell even this, but you probably won't.

In fact the only people getting in trouble for voter issues are right wingers trying to intimidate the poor and minorities from voting.
