None of us write for ratings - at least I don't think so - but we all keep an eye on them anyway. I change the stories in my signature from time to time because I want people to read them, but I have to admit that scores often enter my selection.
I am more curious about how they work, and if they are monitored for abuse. I have seen some stories drop over twenty points after the first month. The most dramatic example was a lesbian story I wrote that dropped almost thirty points during the last 25% of votes cast. My math shows that the average rating of the last 25% of votes was an 8 point drop (a point being one-tenth) from the first 75% of votes.
Okay... maybe I am obsessed with votes, but I do have one question. Are there vote spammers out there? Why would they pick on a lesbian story?
Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean someone is not out to get me.
Gotta go... they're coming... I can hear them... the voices... the voices... help!
