Vote Casting System Suggestion for Laurel

I know this is an old subject, but I wonder if this has been considered:

I have frequently clicked the Submit vote button hastily without actually registering the vote I intended. This means I voted a three when I really intended to vote something higher.

Wouldn't it help if there was a confirmation step between the button and actuall tally? One that says, "Press here if you intend to vote ( )"

or just have all the radio buttons blank instead of the "3" set by default.

Hi Amadeus & Mr_Neb!

I took a look at the current system, where a 3 is the default vote, and I think that you have a valid point. We have set the value for newly added stories to no rating. That means that anyone who hits the "submit" button without first clicking on a score will be asked to go back and rate the story.

This will only affect stories added after the change at first, but over time all of the stories will revert to this system. You can see the change, for example, on this story:

Take a look at that story and let me know your thoughts.

Also, it should be noted, and some of you may remember, that we have a member's only voting system in place as well as the open voting system. The member system, once we turn back it on, will allow registered users to change their vote on any story to their heart's content. This is something that was turned off earlier this year when we were having hardware problems, and it, like the Times Viewed feature, should be coming back soon now that we have more servers.
