I have sent a story for review to TWO volunteer editors, and while I respect that they are giving their own FREE time to help new writers, or anyone in need of help, I really wish they would simply say "I don't have time", or "No way, not now." Instead, they said they would be happy to review the story, and it's been TWO months since I sent them a story to read. I have written them both followup letters asking if they have had time to read them, without any response. Not for nothing, but am I the only one who finds this a bit rude?? Again, I respect their time, and think it's great they have offered to read other's works, and provide some insight, but....

That is awful rude. Shame on them. I would volunteer to help you, but I'm too backed up to get to you in a timely manner. I suspect some of the authors I help will start complaining.

Good luck, I hope you find a good editor soon, one that fits you.

Two months without any response at all is rude. You could probably do some editing of your own. After two months you could approach the story more like an editor than a writer.

You could try some of the other volunteer editors on the list, if you want.

Lastly, I'm not on the list, but if you'd like, e-mail me the story and I'll have a look at it. I have seven stories posted if you'd like to see my writing style before you send me a story. Click on the "profile" icon under this message, then click on the "homepage" link to get to the list of my stories.

I had the very same incident happen. I sent a request to send a story to a volunteer editor. She replied that she would love to work with me and read my story. I sent the story and never heard from her again, even after sending an email to see how it going with the editing. I got absolutely no response. I just decided to do my own editing from that point on and it has been working out just fine. I understand the frustration. I think that if people are going to volunteer their time and post themselves as editors, they should be responsible enough to send a response, even if they are saying they don't have time to read or edit.

Well, don't I feel blessed! I must have chosen the perfect Volunteer Editors. I have two that I used, both get back to me with responses very quickly. After sending them the story, I have never waited longer than a week. Once during that time the editor sent an email stating that she was running a bit slower than her normal 3 days! No, don't ask their names! *s* I don't want them to get so far behind they cannot edit my stories. My hat is off to those two editors. Many thanks! ;)

Personally, if you have not heard from your editors by now, I do not think you will. Find another one to do your editing. Good editors are very hard to find.

Advice...

Try following up one more time. If they're using Literotica.org mail especially, because there have been some problems with it.

One guy sent me 4 emails over a two week span and I got them all at once a month later.(Not at my Lit address, but at another box which is also hosted by bigmailbox.com) I've also accidentally deleted a few who didn't put a subject line in and had an attatchment because I didn't want to download something I had no idea what it was. Make sure you put edit or something in the Subject line.

If someone hasn't answered you at all, they might also have been offline for various reasons too. I know I had some personal problems and I disappeared offline for awhile and I had quite a few requests in my inbox when I got back. I did however reply explaining why I never got back to them. hopefully they all got them!

Or they could just be rude.

Editor's loyalty

I say send it to 10 editors or so, that way you'll get atleast ONE response, if not more. And if you get more, you can compare and see which editor you like best. I have one specific editor I always go to, and he's very good and gives me some INCREDIBLE ideas! So if you find one you like a lot, be loyal after a while, and I think they'll appreciate that and reciprocate the respect. So happy hunting... sometimes it's fun!

Great idea Myst....

I don't even use editors anymore. I never got a single answer. Soooo....I edit my own stuff and I am really, really careful. I thought at first it was because my stuff was awful...but now that I have stories posted and have received positive feedback...I know that isn't it.

I get a little nervous sometimes that there will be silly typos that I missed. I hate typos and missed words...so I am actually hoping to find someone to edit for me.

Thanks for the responses!

Just a quick note to say thanks to all of you have taken the time to write to me personally or via this board. It's nice to know I have sought out and found a GREAT place to make a start with my writings!
