Volunteer Editors

I am sure that I will regret this.

Perhaps while the volunteer editor program isn't working all of the kind hearted inhabitants of the Author's Hangout could pitch in to make LitLand a better, friendlier place.

*quit the snickering, MG*

What I suggest is this:

Authors that are willing to edit for others should post here with the following information:

What you are willing to do: copy edit; give feedback regarding the tone, style or overall flow of the story; both of the former; or something else.

How much time you need.

What types of stories you will edit.

What length of stories you will edit.

A link to your stories (if you don't have one in your sig line) so that the hopeful authors can read your stories and get a feel for your writing style.

Hopeful authors can then read through and PM possible editors.

Hopeful Authors: please show restraint. Contact 1 (one) possible editor at a time and only send them 1 (one) story at a time.

lead by example

I am willing to copy edit or read for flow, etc. Preferably not both at the same time.

I usually ask for a week, so that I can fit editing in with life.

I can copy edit just about anything. For content, I don't do anything with non-consent, BDSM, fetish or gay/lesbian.

I prefer to do stories under 15 MS-Word pages.

My links are below.

Hiya, BKeeney

Excellent idea Bridget. I'll bet DurgGurl would be willing to do some editing.

I would love to help with editing...but, I fear my control of the english language is not that good.

800 edits later I am still saying... DANG IT THAT should be dreamt not dreamed... *sigh (not the ones posted here, I promised myself I wouldn't look at them again for fear of crying if they aren't perfect ;) ).

Sooo, I can do preliminary ones but I can't stand by my editing as perfect.. I can do them around schedule too, and sorta asap but just one person at a time (3 days tops, if not counting this weekend). I would catch obvious things, and mispellings but that is the extent of it.

(I use run on sentences and very bad punctuation habits, soo you know)

Big cojones

Is there anyone here who has the grit and stamina to edit one of DurtGurl's stories?

Sigh, my thoughts exactly.

But here goes:

I'll edit for someone if they need it in the Gay Male or Romance Categories. I have nothing against any of the others, but those are the ones I know and I probably couldn't do justice to much else.

Like Bridget(who I'm beginning to think needs to curb those "nice" impulses of hers.;) ) I'll need a week or so.

I don't care about length, but I've got some things coming up here in the next month so I'm not interested in tackling a series.

I can do a full edit, but I'm warning you if you don't at least do a spell check and learn the paragraphing rules and apply them before you send me something, you're going to get it back unread.

That's about it. If anyone is interested in me doing this, PM me and we'll hash out the rest of the details.

Oh and MG, that's real sweet of you to offer your evil twin up as an ediitor, but forgive me if my mind boggles at the thought of who would actually want DurtGurl to correct their copy.

I give pretty close critiques if the story's not too long. (I critqued Route66_girl's Xmas contest entry & she took my suggestions & won the contest.) But I should mention that I'm an SOB of a critic, and if your story's really bad I'll tell you so.

I don't know if I have time for a full-scale edit. I would try it on a 1 or 2 page story. I'm not real good at proof-reading, though I usually manage to catch misspellings.

NO bestiality, scat or waste play, No incest, no gratuitous cruelty, no adult baby, no "It was my senior year of high school..." stuff.(unless something really interesting happened your senior year of high school)

Click on the "cabinet" link below for my stories.

And Reom are you sure that the past tense of "dream" is "dreamt"? I didn't know that.

MG-

wouldn't that defeat the purpose of DG's stories?

I'll throw my hat in the ring

Why not? It's for a worthy cause. May add a little fire to my engine (currently slouching down the track).

* I'll give a story a lookover. Simple grammatical structure. Unnecessary use of the passive voice. Nothing major that spell check can't do. Mostly I'll be giving an impression on where I felt your story was strong and weak. I'm just an average joe - not a professional writer/editor, but so are many of the visitors here, and we know what we likes!

* The time depends on the length. Obviously, the longer the story, the more time I'll need. I should be able to get back to you in a few days - and if I need longer I'll PM/e-mail first.

* I'll look over anything, but I'm not familiar with goth or gay/lesbian. Although BDSM and beastiality have their points, if a position your characters are in is physically impossible, I won't necessarily be able to correct you on it.
Incest and Affairs (i.e. Loving Wives) are my current hot topics. :)

* Length is not so much an issue as is how long are you willing to wait for a final revision. See my note on time above.

* Click on the WWW button below to see my Lit Member profile, which should list my current posted stories.

Well, there you go!

oh, I haven't got a clue. My spell check would have caught that though, so it's probably not wrong. However, it LOOKS wrong, so it's annoying me. :)
