To days of inspiration
Playing hookie, making something out of nothing
The need to express
To communicate,
To going against the grain,
Going insane
Going mad

To loving tension, no pension
To more than one dimension,

To starving for attention,
Hating convention, hating pretension
Not to mention of course,
Hating dear old mom and dad

Midday past the three- piece suits
To fruits to no absolutes
To Absolute- to choice
To the Village Voice
To any passing fad

To being an us-for once-, instead of a them -

I have read this three times now, and finally I think I am beginning to understand it. Thanks for making me think.

I didn't write it.

I just thought that it could be appreciated here.

Glad to know, I was right:)

I'm waiting for someone to catch the reference...

There is no future
There is no past
Thank God this moment's not the last

There's only us
There's only this
Forget regret or life is yours to miss

No other road no other way
No day but today

I can't control
My destiny
I trust my soul
My only goal is just to be

Will I lose my dignity?
Will someone care?
Will I wake tomorrow
From this nightmare?

Without you
The hand gropes
The ear hears
The pulse beats
Life goes on
But I'm gone
'Cause I die
Without you
I die without you
I die without you
I die without you

There's only now
There's only here
Give in to love
Or live in fear
No other path
No other way
No day but today
No day but today
No day but today
No day but today

No day but today

Some one obviously saw Rent. Movie or actual Broadway?

At last!

I figured that this place would be full of RENTheads:)

I saw the movie. I could barely scrape that together, let alone Broadway.

If anyone wants to be my Angel and finance me a trip to NewYork and a ticket to Broadway, bring it on.;) Otherwise I'll have to be content with the DVD (as soon as I can get my hands on it) until I stike it Middle Class, lol.

Like I said, I haven't seen it on Broadway, but I'm glad that Chris Columbus decided to produce it pretty much as a play on film, and ba humbug to anyone who feels otherwise;) Since I can't get to Broadway, this is the next best thing. I wish they'd make more films like this. (not necessarily plays on film, although that's cool)

To me, Rent (the movie) with whatever flaws it may have, is exactly what a movie should be. It was everything I expected and hoped for and more:)

:nana: I guess I'm rather enthusiastic, lol :nana:

My boyfriend (who didn't see it, and probably wouldn't have cared too much for it*) is sick of hearing me talk about it. :p

*I want to foce him to see it, but i'm a little bit afraid he'll sympathize with Benny.

"the owner of the block next door has a right to do with it
as he pleases."

"happy birthday Jesus"

-- I actually got evicted at Christmas time from a place where I didn't pay rent. (No one there did). You wouldn't believe how many people thought that since I didn't pay rent, I just had no rights and no right to expectation of human kindness. In fact, I was told a few times that if they give you a place to live without charging you rent they basically have the right to expect you to do whatever they say.

"Welcome to America, where you are what you own."

That's why I want to be rich, because money is power. And it's not so much that I crave power as that I hate being so powerless. All men are created equal is bs. Your worth as a person is directly proportionate (in most people's eyes) to your worth to the economy. [And nevermind that the economy is kept along as much by foodstamps as individuals are]

*hugs*

I haven't seen the movie yet, I actually saw the Broadway with my father years ago and immediately requested the soundtrack for the next holiday season, got it too if you need a copy. ;)

From a friend who has seen both, the movie was a pretty decent version, but the play is definitally better.

Same situation, I haven't seen the movie version of Hedwig and the Angry Inch either. I think I saw the play when I was still a bit too young for it though, as apposed to being worried that it would ruin the original for me.

I think it's funny when I read a review that says, "if you haven't seen the play, you may have trouble understanding the movie" or you won't like it or whatever. Then I read tons of viewer responses who say, "I haven't seen the play, but I love the film." I think that those who *would* love the play (although they may not have had the chance to see it yet) would also love the film. Personally, I love that it was made for basically the exact same audience. Just like Harry Potter (the first 2 anyway) was made for fans of the book moreso than for movie goers in general. I love Chris Columbus. I think his genious is in staying invisible- not having to put his stamp on everything, but just letting the story tell itself. He must have the smallest ego in hollywood (and conversly, the strongest true sense of who he is).

I have nothing but pitty for folks who don't like this movie.

I'm a traveler you see, rollin' free
movin' everywhere, my old truck and me
University and City, all about the same
only thing different is the name of the game

I'm a traveler you see, rollin' free
movin' everywhere, my old green truck and me.
Sausalito, San Francisco, Santa Barbara in style
three days in Vegas, didn't see a single smile.

So here I am in greater LA
washin' dishes, pullin' my pay
writin' a little, readin' alot
thinkin' 'bout things I ain't got.

I'm a traveler you see, rollin' free
movin' everywhere, my old truck and me.
58 jobs in 58 cities, goddamn
and I already know who I am.

Out on the pier and up the stairs
pick the best spot out of all the chairs
order a drink look up at the stage
well...I'll be damned, eyes engage.

I'm a traveler you see, rollin' free
movin' everywhere, my old truck and me.
always watching faces, especially the eyes
always finds you unaware; surprise

leaps out and recognition follows close behind
Siddhartha, Zarathustra, Mephistopheles, of one mind
Ragnar, Zoroaster, Rilke, Rimbaud of a kind
Dosteoevski - Milhaud - Wagnar - and you find

integral relationships not seen before
and because of these you find many more
The Beattles and Boo and the Tarot Card
The Emporer, the Prince, it's not that hard

The MJQ and Django, Charlie Christian swing
Judy Collins, Buffy St. Marie, Hoyt Akston, do that thing
Miles and Coltrane, Cream and Airplane
Yeah - I dig - they think we're Insane

And subjectively they're right, we are
outta sight, so far behind, so far
Yale Marrat and Walden Two
Ayn Rand's Anthem and John Galt too

She only smiles for me, dream away
hide your love away for some better day
Cocaine Baby, that's where it's at, Pusherman
Easy Rider - rides no more, but you can

He was younger than I was but the women
always thought he was older, and then
I had a girl, or should I say, Magdalene
get it together, Jude, Hello you, in Plain D when...

Yeah, I'm a traveler you see, rollin' free
movin' everywhere, my old truck and me
It's a long hard road but it might lead you home
it might, but if not, there's still reason to roam

I'm a traveler you see, rollin' free
movin' everywhere, my old truck and me.
straight line highways and winding lanes, strange
sometimes not even the faces show a change.

Forty cents left and whadaya think
better have me some coffee to drink
waitress and boss, dishwasher - ah well
eight years of college, what the hell.

I'm a traveler you see, rollin' free
movin' everywhere, my old truck and me
dusty roads and city lights all the same
and it's time to leave when you know my name.

But I'll remember you and your warm smiles
and keep them with me through the lonely miles.
and when my stock runs low and I'm tired of the ride
I'll think back to the evenings here inside.

Not quite the same as yours...different time, different place....

one of my 60's 'on the road' poems

seemed fitting to post here, hope you don't mind...
