I'm new to the forums on Literotica. I've been reading stories on this site for over 3 years and I thought it was finally time to post something. Since I'm an artist I thought a self portrait would be as good a way as any to introduce myself and this seemed to be the right place.

Pardon the style of the portrait. I do strange things with shadows. And it never quite ends up looking like me.

Here's the full size version: http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x168/Hiddendr3ams/Selfportrait.jpg

I'm the doesn't get enough excitement at home wife who found she has a submissive streak and lots of kinks. My husband's the boring never seems to want sex type.

I also just wanted to say hi to everyone ^_^;

Hi Hidden,
I'm a long time reader too, but new to the forums as well. I was pleased to find this category as I work as a freelance graphic artist. I admire your work and skill; it's a lovely portrait with depth and grace. :)

Thank you very much!

A freelance graphic artist? Do tell! I'm about to graduate college with my degree in Illustration and I'm scared to death of trying to find a job/steady work so far. If you have any advice I'd love to hear it.

I don't know if I'm the best person to give advice of that nature. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'm not. But I guess if I boiled it down to one thing, I'd say don't have anything to fall back on; if you do, you will.

I've worn a lot of career hats in my 38 years and this graphic artist bit is still relatively new to me; going on three years or so. I started out designing web sites (not development or coding, just design) and branched out into logos, illustrations, print graphics, etc... I would say that 75% of my clients are internet based and totally scattered around the globe. I get far more business online than I do locally and to be honest, I like it that way. Fewer client meetings, less hassle. I've networked on some really fabulous forums and word of mouth is king, without a doubt.

The freelance thing isn't for everyone though. I have a husband with a full time career and in the months when my business is dead, he carries us. I don't think I could work for an agency; I got burned out on the whole corporate thing (in another field) and won't ever go back. However, it sure seems like a safer way to go.

Do you plan on going into a particular area or are you still kicking it around?

:)

I'm still kicking it around. My school's not big on career preparation -_-. My dream job would be video game concept design. I'm trying to teach myself some Maya and 3DSMax. I'm good with Photoshop and Painter, ok with Illustrator and any traditional media other than oils (god I hate oils). Sigh... I've been thinking about trying to find a steady position first before I try to make it on my own freelancing since my husband's job can't carry us and college loans always loom on the horizon. Bah! That sounds way too gloomy for how I'm feeling. I'm sure I'll be fine :)

How tough is that to get into, the video game thing? I wonder if you'd have to do an internship first. The 3D stuff is so far beyond my skillset; my husband does a lot of Rhino & Flamingo stuff and I admire the heck out of it.

Are you doing any freelancing while you're in school through any of the F/L sites like Guru?

The video game thing is very tough to get into especially if you're not from one of the schools they usually hire from. I hadn't even heard of Guru! Thank you so much! I haven't broken into the freelance thing yet. My teachers hadn't even mentioned it (they're both medical illustrators which I have no interest in). I'm going to see if I can't get started with it. I think it might be a good way to get my name out. I really don't want to wait until after I graduate to start looking for a job...

Hi Hidden

The self portrait looks great, the shadows are a bit unique but not distracting or off putting. I think you did really well with the eyes, which to me are always the hardest part.

Can't wait to see what more you post.

Welcome to the boards.

Damn, there's never a fabulous artbabe around when I need one. :(

Game designers use a lot of concept art, you might try conceptart.org for one, to maybe try to get a handle on the process, it's basically an art forum, but geared towards game design.

Digitalwebbing and Penciljack are the same thing for comics, and there are others for fine art - I'll get back to you with some more URL's, I haven't surfed the art forums for a while, but even the ones that aren't CG oriented often have help wanted sections where jobs doing CG or concept art are advertised.

Good luck, and judging from your self portrait, it shouldn't be too hard for you to seduce your hubby over to the darkside. Welcome to Literotica, even though I'm a bit of a newbie myself, can't wait to see some more of your artwork.

Phew! What a greeting! Thank you everyone. You've all been encouraging and helpful :)

I might even post more!

It's hard to bring them to fruition in paper form when they've been locked away so long. Patience. I've already decided there will be more to come.

Excellent!
Something to look forward to.:nana:

My patience has been worn quite thin. (not with you, but over years of trials).
