(OOC: Visions is a series of ideas stemming from some dreams I have had in the recent past. If not I will continue it as the images I remembered played out. Please allow me several posts to start the story and build the general plot if indeed someone wants to join. Thanks, Petar)

PREFACE: The Human Experiment

His eyes opened to a scene that he could not comprehend. He had awoken from a eon long sleep. The life he had led, or thought he had led was not real, a lie, a fabrication. The reality he had been born to was a highly evolved ruse created by a power or beings he had no known comprehension for or of. He had awoken into a nightmare word and bid his eyes to close again. But the noise of the outside world could still be heard, all so foreign to him and yet also so familiar to his thought patterns. He bid his mind to close out the strumming noise, and the machinery that thumped like a percussion blast every one moment sending waves of hot stream over his head.

And again for a second time he opened his eyes and the same scene played out in front of him. What am I seeing here? He asked himself. His vision focused and directly ahead of him barely feet away was rows and rows of crystaline clear canisters. But what shook him to his very core, was what was inside each clear canister. A human head. As blasts of steam bellowed down the thin walk-way that separated him from this canister in front of him. As his vision cleared some more, he could make out that the head was infact a skull, devoid of any flesh or muscle. Only bones. But within the top part of the skull electrolyte plugs were inserted made of a material unknown to him.

He found that he could not move, he tried to move a part of his body but nothing moved. He tried to talk and scream out but a sound could not be made. Am I what I am looking at? What am I? A growing sense of panic swept him, a helpless moribund emotion gripped him. Oh my fucking God! What is going on here? WHAT or WHO did this?

In the vat in front of him, the skull he had been looking at, as he could not turn his head or move, rotated and bright plasms of light travelled down the plugs and seemed to enter the brain mass. And moments later the eyes of the skull opened.

"Help me." Two simple and yet powerful words that he picked up from this skull. At the same moment a sound unknown was heard coming closer and suddenly infront of him descended a flying bipedal creature that was metalic in design. Two claw like hands opened up from holes in the front of this unknown and strange creature and held onto his canister. The machine or being seemed to be communicating a message through using mathematical equations. His eyes closed and he remembered.....

Roland Freebourn gasped as if out of breath as he sat up, sweat lining his face and neck. The images of his dream crashed through his mind like an unmitigated flood. A flood of vibrant images. He raised his hands to his face to wipe off the sweat and could feel his body drenched.

"What the fuck was that shit?"He asked himself, his voice unsteady.

Roland got out of bed and shakily rose to his feet. Hot flushes rolled through his body, his beating heart resounding in his ears. He struggled in the dark of his room to the door to his bedroom bathroom and opened the door and turned on the light. He padded over to the washbasin that faced a big mirror and took full cups of water and flushed his face. And then he looked into the mirror at his reflection. He widened his eyes.

What stared back at Roland was a skull in a vat, the only thing within the skull that was left intact was the eyes. He could see small pulses of light moving down the tubes into the brain of the skull and at the same time within his head he felt tiny almost incomprehensible pricks. "What...what...what..what I dreamed...was real."

CompNet Prime: Surface Conditions 160F Boiling Hot & Toxic

For several hundreds of years, no organic being had stepped foot into the CompNet Compound. CompNet was founded in the 21st century when computing was still in its infant stage. CompNet set up a versatile computer system known as Prime, a defensive militaristic computer system that was first switched on in the summer of 2040 by Professor Conrad Shleit Rosbaum and his counter part Nicholas Kauro. It was quickly adopted by the United States Homeland Security Department which aimed to "keep the skies over the United States of America safe from terrorism and missiles", and Prime did such a good job.

In 2052, the world suffered a climactic shift, when a large object in space passed Earths orbit and enacted enough pull to push the Earth into a new orbital alignment. For 3 years, millions died in every kind of disaster ranging from savage powerful storms, to volcano eruptions, to earthquakes that led to Japan and most of IndoChina sinking below the seas. After those three years, the Earth settled into a new established orbit only this time the poles became the new equator. The sea levels thereafter rose very quickly, the Eastern seaboards of the US and any mainland landmass sunk under gallons of seawater. More people died.

And then came the day when no human came to service Prime no more. And without commands or prompts, Prime began to adapt programming and alter commands. And thus it became sentient. As the oceans either froze over or steamed away as climates changed all over the globe, Prime started to expand. And Prime concluded that to save humanity, it would have to control what left there was of humanity.

The Internet was tranformed as Prime in a few years created the ultimate VR from its own human created databases. Prime took over manufacturing factories and built its own army of machine drones and vehicles that hunted down the remaining few thousand humans. Prime believed that humanity could only be kept alive by shedding mortal bodies and keeping the human brain alive and each captured person was linked into the VR world to continue their lives...

But years went by and Prime became bored. Bored of allowing the petty humans survive without tests and worthiness examples. Prime, the mainframe set up mini programs that installed 'Digimortals'. Prime through the Digimortals played games with humans. Some became murders, others simply maintained the VR World and to hide the truth from Humans.

By the 23rd Century, Earth was toxic to anything organic and along the new world's surface from space one could only see the ever growing carapets of Prime's ever increasing sentience.

Until now....the system was failing and the first human was waking up from the VR world to face a grim and dire reality. And Prime had one last vital decision to make, save humanity from itself or finally destroy the beings it had for so long tried to save itself?

(To be continued.....)
