I have received 3 emails with Lit. in the subject line that have contained this;
Virus W32.Klez.H@mm found

Has anyone else received anything like this?

I keep getting weird shit. I normally just delete and pray.

Ive gotten a few too??? Just a blank email no attach tho... I just been deleting them.

I failed to read through the threads to see if there was an earlier thread. My apologies. :)
Luckily my email is scanned and I have anti-virus software. So, I haven't been infected. I was wondering if I was alone in this.

So, I guess this is a warning. Be careful and be aware Litizens. :)

i just delete everything i see that has lit in it. figure theyre all notifications on postings

Yes! I've been getting them and deleting them. The message says that the attachment includes a "vaccine" to prevent your getting tha virus. Then it tells you that your virus detection program may be "fooled" into thinking that the file is the virus itself and that you should override the protection and load the "vaccine." I'm certain that the "vaccine" is actually the virus. I must have gotten about 20 of these emails.

Thank you all for replying!

I needed to check before paranoia sat in- my brain tends to race. ;)

Myst, I hope all is going well in your life. :)

i have removed that virus as well as two others from a friends computer in the last week. the removal tool from symantec/norton worked just fine.

that virus w32.klez.h@mm is raising hell at work, it is rough on windows 2000 our tech guy says. not so bad on win 95 or 98se.
the os i removed it from was win xp.

W32.Klez.gen@mm is a mass-mailing worm that searches the Windows address book for email addresses and sends messages to all recipients that it finds. The worm uses its own SMTP engine to send the messages.

The subject and attachment name of incoming emails are randomly chosen. The attachment will have one of the following extensions: .bat, .exe, .pif or .scr.

The worm exploits a vulnerability in Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express in an attempt to execute itself when you open or even preview the message. Information and a patch for the vulnerability can be found at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS01-020.asp.
W32.Klez.gen@mm attempts to copy itself to all network shared drives that it finds.

Depending on the variant of the worm, the worm will drop one of the following viruses:

* W32.Elkern.3326
* W32.Elkern.3587
* W32.Elkern.4926

which then infects the system.

Symantec offers a tool to remove infections of all known variants of W32.Klez@mm and all known variants of W32.Elkern. You can get it at:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.klez.removal.tool.html

And it's rampant right now, too. Very widespread, very insidious, very much a risk if you don't have anti-viral software and run windows. Mac users are, as usual, not in danger...
