Seem to have a bug in the machine here.

It kept generating eml files. I apparently have stopped that but the comp is getting very touchy.

Have a few strange files in the System directory that I can't delete...one keeps regenerating even after I delete it through DOS...

Called "SCam32.exe"

Looking at reformatting this baby soon:(

Anybody heard of a Virus or Worm called FunLove.gen?

Scam32.exe is the SirCam Virus. You can kill it with a download from any of the antivirus sites.
My work computer got it in July and emailed one unfortunate music store in Germany 85 times with a drawing of the knobs on our analogue mixing console.
It could be sending any one of your files to anyone on your address book.
I hope you have nothing embarrassing on there!
Good Luck
Dave

Thanks

I don't use Outlook so I am hoping it is confined to this machine alone. It jumped to this one from my daughter's, which I had brought home to work on. Jumped just as soon as I hoked it to the network here at home. Her comp is now clean probably because she had some antivirus software from the college installed after it bacame infected.

I did have to delete over a thousand eml files on her hard drive...almost all the same thing..

Thanks again.

Thumper, if you need any help, let me know. Like downloading stuff or browsing while your doing something else. :)

Not that I'm working on the site right now, but...

You need to get rid of the Sircam Virus asap!

It will email all of your personal files to other users. No lie, during the peak of Sircam's popularity we were getting 1000's of files sent from tons of people's computers. The virus actually copies files from your MyDocuments folder and sends them out to anyone and everyone. It grabs the email addresses from your Internet Explorer cache, meaning that it will send files to the email addresses listed on any website you visit. You can imagine that this unapproved file sharing is a bad thing.

Also, there is this nice little article about what the Sircam virus is going to do on October 16th:

Watch out!

Ok, back to work for me... :)

Damn

I guess this makes me the cber worlds version of "Typhoid Mary"

Thanks for the info...will be initializing removal attempt momentarily.

So this thing can spread even if I don't use Outlook?

I use Netscape exclusively but my son uses IE...

Thanks again.

Thumper-

I got a dose of Sircam at work a few weeks ago. We downloaded all the fixes from both Norton and McAfee, but nothing worked and we had to wipe the hard drive and re-load everything. I hope your luck is better.

do you have any antivirus software on your computer? i think if you did, that would have caught it before it went haywire on your puter

So, if I empty out all my 'embarassing stuff' from MyDocuments to a new file, will I be okay?

I use netscape navigator.. does that make a difference?

Thanks people!

I did the manual removal on my daughter's machine. Glad I did, it was still there in the registry.

A quick word of advice..if you ever send a child off to college with a computer that you had networked at home be sure to turn off all the "sharing" on it. She is connected to a Lan down there and the worm apparently looks for computers on a network that have sharing enabled.

Now I gotta go in and try to remove it from the homebuilt machine...the really screwed up one.

*putting on isolation suit and airpack*

My whore...the computer

Wasn't just carrying around the SirCam virus. It had two others, Funlove and Win95/Spaces.

Couldn't install antivirus software so I ended up wiping and reinstalling Windows on three damn computers!

Thanks for the help.

I have now reformed my ways and using my cyber condoms faithfully.

Don't be like me *in testimonial mode* only engage in commited protected sex...er surfing.
